Although we see quite a few photographs of Granville Court and Esplanade, this one which we believe is from the 1960s and was taken from what was then Victoria Gardens is from an unusual angle.
All the gardens in the photo are now of course the car park for the Floral Hall.

This photograph dates from about 1908.
For some reason most photographs of Grosvenor Terrace (New Road) are taken from the other end, or from further along on this side, so this one is a bit unusual.

Coastal Erosion is of course not a new thing and a tremendous amount of land has been lost to the sea over the years.
This map shows the positions of the villages lost since Roman times, according to information collected in 1912.

On 10th June 1926 the HUDC Golf Course in Hallgarth Park was officially opened.
The first ball was struck by Mr. Charles Morrow, the chairman of the HUDC, after which there was an exhibition match between Alan and Jim Dailey, the sons of the Hornsea Golf Club Professional.
The charges were 6d (2.5p) for a round, 1/6d (7.5p) for a day, 5s (25p) for a week and 21s (£1.05) for a season ticket.
The course was closed on Sundays.
On the same day the new telephone exchange was officially opened by Mr. C. R. Thomas, The Hull Postmaster.
It was in a house on Newbegin opposite the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel.
In his speech, Mr. Thomas said that when the first telephones were installed in Hornsea in 1906-07, there were only 25 subscribers. Now there were 175 subscribers and 4 lines to Hull.
Two operators would be on duty during the day and one at night.
Also on 10th June 1926, the HUDC signed the agreement with Hull Corporation to enable the latter to provide the town's water supply.

It won't be that long before it's Carnival Time again.
This photograph dates from the 1950s when the Eastgate Motors garage with the overhead petrol lines was still there, and this was their decorated float for the Carnival Parade.

We don't have an accurate date for this photograph of part of the Market Place, but we are guessing about 2003 or so.
The shops shown have changed hands since then, and there have been several changes over the years.
Can you remember any of them?
