Exciting news for vocational learning at OA-Nene Valley!

Thanks to generous funding awarded to Olive Academies Foundation from Lujenna Educational Trust, we will be creating a refurbished and expanded Hair & Beauty classroom to strengthen career pathways and accredited learning opportunities for our students.

Ready for the new academic year in September, the new space will provide more hands-on learning opportunities, improved accessibility and support students working towards qualifications linked to post-16 education and careers in Hair & Beauty. It will also help us expand outreach opportunities for local schools.

A huge thank you to Lujenna Educational Trust for investing in the futures of our young people and to the foundation for helping us turn this opportunity into a reality. 👏

🕷️🐍 An unforgettable hands-on science experience at OA-North View!

Students recently welcomed Spirit of the Wild to the school, giving them the chance to get up close to some incredible animals including a husky, tarantula, tortoise, snake, fruit bat and chinchilla.

Linked to the science curriculum, the visit gave students the opportunity to learn about wildlife in an engaging, interactive way - including handling and experiencing animals they would not normally have the chance to encounter so closely.

Experiences like this help bring learning to life, spark curiosity and build confidence, while creating memorable moments beyond the classroom. Safe to say, the students loved it!

🏁 Rewarding effort, attitude and achievement at OA-Nene Valley!

Every half term, our Year 9 and 10 students have the chance to earn a place on a special rewards trip through their hard work, positive behaviour and house point totals.

The top 10 students are invited to choose their reward experience – and recently, they picked an action-packed go-karting trip!

The activity offers opportunities to build confidence, develop resilience, improve focus and decision-making, and strengthen communication skills, while celebrating their success through a positive shared experience beyond the classroom.

Trips like these are a fantastic way to recognise students who consistently demonstrate our values, make great choices and give their best each day.

Well done to all the students who attended the trip – we hope you enjoyed every lap! 👏

🎶 At OA-Cambridge, we’re proud of our strong four-year vocational partnership with Cambridge Junction, creating meaningful opportunities for our students through music.

Each week, six students take part in hands-on, music-based sessions that support their learning and encourage creativity in a different environment.

The impact is clear:

"Throughout our partnership, we have seen a consistently positive impact on learners who have significant barriers in their lives. Young people have developed confidence, transferable skills, and a strong sense of achievement, while being encouraged to explore their creativity in meaningful and tangible ways."

Experiences like this help students build confidence, develop transferable skills and discover new ways to express themselves beyond the classroom.

We’re proud to continue this partnership and the opportunities it creates for our young people.

Outdoor learning continues to grow at OA-North View, creating exciting opportunities for students to challenge themselves, build confidence and develop new skills.

Most of our Year 9 students can now free ski, while our expanding Land & Sea programme gives pupils the chance to take part in adventurous activities including canoeing, kayaking, sailing, climbing and mountain biking.

These experiences sit at the heart of our curriculum because of the positive impact they have on personal development. Through outdoor learning, students are developing resilience, teamwork, confidence and wellbeing, while increasing their engagement both in and out of the classroom.

We’re proud to see our young people stepping outside their comfort zones, trying new experiences and achieving things they never thought possible. 👏

💛 Supporting our community, beyond the classroom.

OA-Nene Valley is proud to support Feed Fenland by opening our kitchen facilities six nights a week - helping the charity continue to provide vital meals and support to those who need it most.

More recently, we also supported the second Fenland Sleepout, raising £1,200 alongside Street Supplies. Participants spent the night outdoors to raise awareness of homelessness and the challenges many people face.

A powerful example of partnership, compassion and community in action.

👏 We are incredibly proud to see former OA-Havering (OA-Hv) student Jasmine achieving remarkable things following her successful return to mainstream education.

After spending 18 months at OA-Hv, Jasmine has continued to flourish - and was recently named runner-up at the regional finals of the Jack Petchey Foundation Speak Out Challenge while representing her mainstream school.

The competition, the largest public speaking competition for young people in the world, helps students develop the confidence and communication skills needed to speak with purpose and impact. Jasmine’s speech focused on her experiences of living with ADHD which went undiagnosed for years until she joined OA-Hv.

During her time at OA-Hv, staff worked closely with Jasmine to support her confidence, wellbeing and self-belief - helping her rediscover her potential and prepare for a successful transition back into mainstream education.

Staff also helped her to understand her new diagnosis, what this meant for her and created strategies for her to use so that she could manage life situations better.

To now see her speaking on such a big stage is a fantastic achievement and a real testament to her resilience, determination and growth.

Well done, Jasmine - we couldn’t be prouder! 🌟

🤝 Olive Academies is proud to have supported the development of the national Ask Me: Education initiative led by Child Bereavement UK.

This important campaign encourages schools to take a simple but powerful approach to supporting bereaved children and young people: ask them what they need and listen.

Since early 2025, colleagues across our trust have contributed to shaping the programme, ensuring it reflects the lived experiences of pupils in alternative provision. From focus groups to national conversations, we’ve been pleased to play a role in strengthening support for young people navigating grief.

We are also proud to be early adopters of the training, which helps educators build confidence, show empathy and respond in a trauma-informed way.

Since launching, over 600 professionals have signed the manifesto, more than 800 have downloaded guidance, and training has reached 2,200+ pupils.

🎧 Students at OA-Nene Valley are building confidence and developing new creative skills through sessions with Noise Academy as part of our new enrichment strand.

Students across all year groups are learning DJing and beatboxing skills in engaging workshops that encourage creativity, communication and teamwork.

They’ll also gain certification at the end of the programme – recognising the progress they’ve made and the skills they’ve developed.

There’s even more excitement ahead, with plans for Noise Academy to attend our summer prom, where participating students will have the chance to get involved in the DJing! 🙌

A fantastic example of learning beyond the classroom and creating opportunities for young people to shine.
