Wrexham Cath Ankers 2026
Holywell Finish as Top Visiting Club
Wrexham held their annual Cath Ankers meet on Sunday the 26th April at WaterWorld Leisure Centre, a meet open to all ages which proved to be very popular and very well attended.
Thirty-six Holywell swimmers arrived ready to race, and they certainly did not disappoint. A host of fantastic swims produced numerous personal bests and a treasure trove of medals. Many Holywell swimmers also broke meet records, adding to an already outstanding performance. Other highlights included a superb 100m Freestyle from George, who broke the one-minute for the first time. Strong performances in the distance events also showed the determination and character of many of our swimmers.
16 Teams attended :- Bebington, Buckley, Chirk, City of Chester, Connahs Quay, Corwen Sharks, Denbigh Dragons, Flint, Holywell, Mold, Nantwich Seals, Newtown, Rhyl Dolphins, Ruthin Rays, Welshpool Sharks, Wrexham.
Holywell are proud to say we finished as the top visiting club.
As usual we were very well looked after by the Wrexham team, the busy meet had a friendly vibe with all the teams cheering for their swimmers.
A sad, but warm, heartfelt message was given to all the teams, swimmers, and parents at the break. This was to recognise the last meet for Flint Swimming Club. Marion, from Wrexham, recognised Edna Hall for all her work at the Flint club over the years, and we are all sad that such a great community club has had to close its doors.
For Holywell, Wrexham’s meets, like the Cath Ankers, continue to be a vital stepping stone for young athletes to gain competitive experience before moving up to higher-level meets.
We would like to thank Wrexham and all the officials who helped out, including our own Gary McCullagh and our team managers: Susan Roscoe, Becca Williams, and Alison Langridge, who looked after the swimmers, getting them ready for their races. It was a long day for everyone, and many parents and grandparents were in attendance, cheering the team on. Thank you for all your support for our swimmers.
