E-BIKE CONVERSIONS...
​Spring has sprung and fuel prices are rising fast so its a good time to get that unused bike out of the shed and electrify it. Rear wheel, mid frame or front wheel motors available fitted, tested and guaranteed from £680. I've just been working on these two conversions, the smaller one (Brompton) even folds up to suitcase size for train/bus travel 👍

Viking Salerno E-Tandem 24 gears, very good condition, around 8 years old but looks like new as recently professionally serviced, restored and fitted with a new 350 watt rear hub motor powered by 36 volt lithium batteries (12.5Ah or 462 Wh). This can be operated by either twist grip throttle or pedal movement (pedal assist) with 5 power settings.
New Schwalbe City Jet puncture resistant tyres and tubes.
Very comfy as new leather padded and gel seats
New Mudguards
New inner brake and gear cables (stainless steel)
New brake blocks
New front wheel spokes (stainless steel to match the rear wheel)
New rear chain
New bottle rack
Various bolts / screws replaced with new stainless steel ones
New 350 watt geared (better than gear-less for hill climbing) brush-less rear wheel hub motor
New 12.5 Ah battery with charger
New remote controlled vibration alarm
New bell

These Hub Motors have been around for many years and are very reliable. I've fitted 9 so far and know of many others that have with no problems. The batteries have a life expectancy of greater than 500 cycles (charge then discharge) so you would have around 499 left which is a long time considering the high mileage you get per £0.20 charge.
Front Spd pedals not included (replaced by standard black flat pedals)

I've had a very busy time since the covid 19 virus started, first with general service and repairs as people were desperate to get out on their bikes during lock down. Then during this time I did around 8 E-bike conversions including 3 tandems. On top of this the govt introduced the £50 fix your bike voucher scheme so I've restored quite a few classic bikes from last century. Anyway here's a few photos of recent jobs...

Dig out that old bike and electrify it! Either buy your own kit for me to install or let me supply and fit a road legal 250 watt E-bike kit as used by myself to cover over 1340 km and 2400 metres of ascent/climbing over the last 10 months in all weathers with no problems.

E-BIKE ADVANTAGES:​

1 - No TAX, MOT, INSURANCE required
2 - Low maintenance and very reliable.
3 - More practical than a normal bike for shopping, chores etc
4 - Feels more stable on windy days due to extra weight, especially with an
heavier E Mountain Bike
5 - Headwinds and hills no longer like having teeth pulled.
6 - More comfortable in the cold and rain as you can carry extra clothing with
panniers & handlebar bags because weight is no longer an issue
7 - You can still have a good workout by trying to do parts or whole of a ride
without the motor power so don't view it as cheating as I hear people say. For
myself, I'm hoping to keep healthy fit not race fit.
8 - You can choose quieter safer roads for your rides / commutes as you can
now do the big hills (along with off road routes if using an E-Mountain Bike).
9 - You don't have to wear Lycra so much as its not such a sweaty ordeal. You
do still sweat but maybe the extra average speed disperses it better.
10 - Can be ridden and enjoyed by the young (cant afford a car and insurance
but want mobility) and older. Also, we have many E-bikers in the Holmfirth
Cycle Club with various health issues and up to age 83 at last count.

E-BIKE DISADVANTAGES:

1 - Granted they can be more expensive but to counter this argument, you don't need the latest super lightweight carbon/titanium bike because you have an additional equivalent of Ed Clancy's leg pushing you up the hills. You just need a mid range decent quality road or mountain bike.
2 - The motor makes a slight humming noise
3 - The battery may only last 500 to 800 cycles (charge and discharges) but that could equate to many years even if you charge it 2/3 per week as I do for 5 rides. 4 - A new battery costs around £200. To fully charge it costs around 12p last time I worked it out. A full charge once lasted me 5 rides with a total of 95km and 2400 metres of ascent / climbing on eco mode.
5 - Heavier to lift onto a bike rack but I tend to un-clip the battery anyway and store it in the car.

Due to the corona virus I'm now doing a CONTACT LESS COLLECTION AND DELIVERY SERVICE which involves:

a) Contacting me (aah not so contact less then) to arrange a time for collection (call/text 07969 051828, [email protected] or the Holme Valley Bike Fix page messenger.

b) I turn up at your house/workplace and collect the bike maintaining a 3 metre distance from you.

c) I take your bike to the workshop, inspect / clean / service / repair it and call/message you when finished to arrange delivery

d) I send you a detailed invoice then you can pay online using either Paypal (to: [email protected] ), Bank Transfer/payment or Pay a Contact (via mobile phone).

e) You have a lovely ride on what feels like a new bike then tell everyone about Holme Valley Bike Fix etc ta 🙂
