Kidney vetch seeds that I was given at the Small Blue butterfly conference germinating in a bare patch on the edge of the Caravan track. Small Blue butterflies are completely dependant on kidney vetch for food and for laying their eggs.

On the left hand side of the orange rays, the western end of Ben More Assynt and Braebeg, the ridge to the left (south west) of Ben More Assynt, are orange! The hill below the rays is Migdale Wood and Struie is to the left (also south west).

Wild flower patch on bare ground on Caravan track where logs had been stacked. A £2.99 box of wild flower seed from Home Bargains sown far too late last year has yielded this calendula, foxglove, plantain, forget me not, germander speedwell and cosmos. I sowed some more wild flower seed this afternoon.

40" 1 metre circumference at chest height, 37 year old oak on the Caravan Track. When my dad planted the Hill of Edderton in 1989, his ambition was to grow the most northern, north facing oak wood in the UK. Getting there! But of course they are not all as perfect as that one! Nowhere near.

Fox and pine marten at my caravan last night, hoovering up suet pellets that I put out for the birds. And then I saw a female Crossbill beside my caravan and a Fritillary buuterfly, probably Pearl Bordered, yesterday afternoon on the Caravan Track. The larvae eat Dog Violet which are becoming established on the hill, especially on the track edges. What a day for wildlife!

Beautiful, very still evening last night.
