Can’t get tickets to see the Bayeux Tapestry? There’s another tapestry worth discovering… and this one is right here in Higham Ferrers!

With the famous Bayeux Tapestry now on display at the British Museum for the first time in almost 1,000 years, interest in this remarkable piece of history is at an all-time high.

But did you know that Higham Ferrers has its very own tapestry? Our wonderful Higham Ferrers Mapestry celebrates the town’s history through fabric, thread, appliqué and embroidery, featuring some of the town’s historic buildings and landmarks. Created by a team of talented friends known as the Material Girls, this unique 1.5-metre artwork took several years and countless stitches to complete.

Originally displayed in the town library, the Mapestry has now found a new home at Hope Methodist Church, where it can be enjoyed and appreciated as part of Higham Ferrers’ heritage.

So, if you’ve caught the Bayeux Tapestry bug but missed out on those coveted British Museum tickets, why not discover a little bit of tapestry history closer to home?

We’re proud to announce that Get Medieval will be onsite offering FREE Medieval Combat Trails – a fun and exciting sword-fighting activity suitable for ages 6+, including adults!

With up to 30 participants able to take part at once, it’s the perfect opportunity to have a go, learn some medieval combat skills and enjoy an activity the whole family can get involved in! 🛡️⚔️

Come along to Rushden Lakes and enjoy a fantastic day of free family entertainment, community activities and local history. We can’t wait to see you there!

🚧 Important information for visitors to The Wharf and Riverside Park... Higham Ferrers Riverside Angling Association will be carrying out an important work party at The Wharf this Friday, Saturday and Sunday 🎣🌳

During the works, some areas will be temporarily closed whilst the paths on the island are topped up, helping to address erosion caused by last winter’s weather and protecting them for future use. Residents and visitors are asked to take care when visiting the area and to follow any signage or temporary closures in place.

Everyone is warmly invited to join the Mayor of Higham Ferrers, Councillor Chris O’Rourke, for his Civic Service this Sunday 13th September.

A Civic Service is a special community worship event that brings together local government representatives, residents and members of the community. It is also an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contribution of local volunteers and reflect on the importance of public service.
