Join the Halloween hunt around the garden and look out for pumpkins, ghosts, witches and other characters along the way. A fun trail for the whole family to enjoy.

Creepy Chilterns

Discover some of the stranger side of the Chilterns, with local legends, curious creatures and stories from folklore. Spooky, but not too scary – perfect for curious explorers aged 8–12.

Stranger Folk
📆 3 October–1 November
Step into a world inspired by British folklore and follow an immersive adventure through the garden. Keep your eyes open for curious characters and discover what happens when the worlds of humans and spirits meet. Best suited to explorers aged 7–12.

There are stories hiding all around the Chilterns… and some of them might be closer than you think.

We caught up with British folklorist and author Stevyn Colgan, who shares some of the local folklore and stories that have been passed down through generations — including the Little Witches of Buckinghamshire.

These mischievous little figures are part of Buckinghamshire folklore, and one of them has made her way to the gardens at Hughenden. 🧙‍♀️
