For more info please visit: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/support-us/adopt-a-plot The Peak District National Trust own or manage 13% of the Peak District National Park. The precious countryside that we look after, offers a much needed place to escape, relax and have adventurous days out away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Now more than ever we all need nature but at the same time

nature needs us all to care for it. Help us to look after the places we all love by being - take all litter home with you, keep dogs on leads to protect wildlife and livestock, opt for a picnic as BBQs and campfires are not allowed and pose severe fire risks and be kind to others and the landscape. As a conservation charity we rely on the generosity of our supporters to help us look after these beautiful places for wildlife, for people and for future generations to enjoy. You can help support our vital conservation work and help our countryside be better equipped to tackle climate change by searching for our Peak District Appeal. With your help we can secure the future of our woodlands, wildlife, meadows, rivers, rolling hills and dramatic landscapes for years to come - thank you. For more information please visit our three websites by searching Longshaw, Ilam Park and Kinder and Edale. House Rules:

Here’s a field full of mood boosting* buttercups to bring some joy to your feed.

*not an officially recognised species name - just our assessment of what this field of yellow flowers with a great view in the distance did to us when we saw it.

Feel free to share your own mood boosting moments from nature in the comments.
Thanks to Wayne from our welcome team for sharing this image after he spotted this field carpeted in buttercups on land in our care in the White Peak.

Fledglings on a Friday!

At this time of year young birds are leaving the nest and exploring the world for the first time. This young dipper was spotted on the Longshaw Estate recently by one of our volunteer photographers. You need to look carefully to see this youngster amongst the moss, rocks and branches though.

The adult bird, with its white chest, is a little easier to spot.

We wonder if the adult bird is teaching the youngster the famous dipper dip!

Our volunteers all bring something unique to the team but not many of them have paws! Meet Margot (potentially one of the cutest volunteers in the team*).

She’s a new Pooch-Patrol volunteer in the White Peak. A volunteer with a difference who is joined by her human to make a first-class friendly dog welcome team who like to be role models for walking on a lead and general dog etiquette experts.

It was a difficult job** but we spent some time with her recently to find out more about how and why she applied and what’s involved in the role. We also found out more about what she loves about volunteering with the National Trust too. That included checking out the dog facilities and saying hello to other dogs.

*other volunteers bring their own loveliness to the team – not many have paws though 😉
** we might be fibbing here!

There is a lot to love about peatlands. Precious peatlands in the Peak District give us more than just iconic views. They support so many species of wildlife. They also have the power to help us tackle climate change, and to manage water.

This there's a lot to celebrate about these important habitats.

The specialist plants and the peat bog pools found here provide homes for insects like bees, dragonflies butterflies and moths, as well as reptiles and small mammals. They’re also home to a wide range of birds like the golden plover and birds of prey

Healthy peat bogs slow the flow of water from the top of the moors, helping to reduce the risk of flooding and improving the quality of our drinking water
In good condition they capture carbon

We’re restoring peatlands across the Peak District alongside our partners and with your support.

Our volunteers are just brilliant! We really couldn’t do it without them so we’re sending them a huge thank you as Volunteer’s Week gets underway.

They help us with all kinds of tasks from welcoming visitors and building dry stone walls to monitoring wildlife and mending or creating things. They run our second-hand bookshops, look after our gardens, make scones, help in the office, take photographs, lead guided walks and so much more it would be impossible to list everything.

They are superstars and we appreciate the skills, dedication and passion they bring to the team.

When you see how much extra people power they have brought to the team in the last year it is truly astounding!

Thank you.
