North Northumberland, Cramlington & Killingworth and Blyth Valley voters could have had Thom Campion as their Liberal Democrat MP ⚠️
This wasn’t a fringe activist. He was a Liberal Democrat councillor, parliamentary candidate and employee who was repeatedly promoted by the party as part of its future leadership 🏛️
📍 2019 – Selected by the Liberal Democrats as their parliamentary candidate for Blyth Valley
⚠️ 2021 – Forced to apologise after historic sexist and abusive social media posts resurfaced
🗳️ 2021 – Elected as a Liberal Democrat councillor for Newcastle City Council
🔶 2023 – Selected by the Liberal Democrats as their parliamentary candidate for Berwick-upon-Tweed
🔄 2023 – Switched to become the Liberal Democrat candidate for Cramlington & Killingworth
📢 2024 – Runs the Liberal Democrat campaign for the North East Mayor
Mr Campion was forced to apologise after historic sexist and abusive social media posts resurfaced. He said those comments did not reflect his views and the Liberal Democrats continued to back him. He was only suspended from the Party in 2024 after a complaint was lodged against him📱
Now, after a court case in which the judge rejected his account of events, Mr Campion has been found guilty of sexual assault ⚖️
The court heard evidence that he lured a woman upstairs to see a “cute teddy bear” before sexually assaulting her. The judge concluded that the sexual acts took place without her consent 🚨
Why did the Liberal Democrat’s continue to select, promote and put Mr Campion before voters as a potential Member of Parliament in Northumberland?
