Training Exercise Tuesday 13 Jan 2026

A quick heads up that we will be conducting a training exercise with our colleagues from Hexham and Haltwhistle at St Cuthberts Chuch, Allendale from around 7:30pm on Tuesday night.

If you see our fire appliances in the area, don’t be alarmed, it’s just a training exercise.

Thank you!

❄️ Stay off the ice, it could save your life ❄️

This photo shows the River Wansbeck in Morpeth, frozen during the current cold period. While it may look calm and solid, ice on rivers is extremely unpredictable and never safe.

Frozen rivers, ponds and lakes can give way without warning, putting lives at risk. Tragically, people have lost their lives in recent years after falling through ice.

🚫 Stay off frozen water
πŸ‘Ά Talk to children about the dangers
πŸ• Keep dogs on leads and don’t throw toys onto the ice

If someone falls through the ice, do not attempt a rescue on the ice - call 999 immediately.

APPEAL | Were you travelling on the A69 near to the junction for Blenkinsopp Castle on Friday evening around 6.25pm?

You could be witness to a collision where a man sadly lost his life.

It's understood a black Mercedes GLA 200 had been travelling westbound and collided with a red heavy goods vehicle travelling in the opposition direction.

A grey BMW 3 Series and a black Volvo XC60 travelling westbound were also damaged by debris from the collision.

The driver of the Mercedes, a man in his 70s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger from the same car, a woman in her 70s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

The occupants from the other vehicles remained at the scene to help with our enquiries.

This is a busy road, and we're keen to speak to anyone who saw the vehicles involved or has dashcam footage.

A beautiful day to be checking our areas most remote fire hydrant.
We check all our hydrants on a regular basis so that we know they are functional and available should we need them.
When you are parking, look out for the yellow and black H signs so you can avoid being on top of one!
