NEWS! Safer School Travel in Hexham:

HENCOTES - After a long campaign Cllr Suzanne Fairless-Aitken has had the school patrol crossing reinstated at Hencotes for the safety of families crossing to school there - twice a day. Patrol officer, John, will assist residents and stop cars for safer crossings to Sele and St Mary's First schools.

NO.10 BUS - after negotiations with NCC officers and Go North East she has also had the No10 bus re-routed twice a day to connect families in Hexham East with the schools in West...to make it drier and safer, as well as hoping to ease traffic around the school sites.

"The extended Tyne Valley 10 bus services arrive at Queen Elizabeth High School at 08:37 in the morning and depart from the school at 15:31 in the afternoon."

Hexham Town Councils St Andrews Cemetery has been awarded the Green Flag award for 2026/27.

The international organisation recognises the quality of green spaces and assesses the area.

Mayor Derek Kennedy said “Hexham Town Council is delighted to receive the Green Flag as recognition of the high quality nature of our St Andrews Cemetery on the West Road. We have introduced new wildlife to the cemetery including bee hives and more meadows and wild flowers to encourage sustainability into the green area. It provides a place of peaceful reflection for many people coming to visit their loved ones. Our thanks to the excellent staff who work at the cemetery and deliver an oustanding service.”

🐟🧀 Hexham Shambles Market and Market Place Car Park Update 💐

💐Hexham market will be OPEN and operating temporarily outside Hexham Abbey on the Abbey Flags from Monday 20th July to Friday 25 July.

🚘 The Market Place Car Park will be CLOSED between 20-25 July

🏛️ This is so we can safely undertake the final infrastructure work on the car parking area. This is one the last jobs to complete the careful restoration of this historic building with a few essential jobs that could not be undertaken during the winter months. 🌨️

Local businesses remain OPEN and there is lots of parking throughout the town.

🙏 Thank you for your support while we finish these works ❤️
