Watch out for events at The Bridge during half term week ..... Board Games, including Scrabble: Beetle, Othello, Animal Jumble, dominoes, Dobble, playing cards and a few more. You can come in and play during every session that the Bridge is open until 6pm on Friday 31st October. Next, at 6pm on Wednesday evening, come and meet local author Sue Reed. Hear about her wonderful stories "The Rewilding of Molly McFlynn" and the new sequel "Molly McFlynn Goes Rogue". Lastly, on Saturday October 31st, we have a stone painting session with local artist Amanda Randall, whose pictures and greetings cards are on display at The Bridge. All the materials are provided and you take your ideas from Halloween or from anything else that interests you. This session is for all ages but children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Join us for a friendly, informal chat with Community Action Northumberland's (CAN) Energy Team. Drop-in at The Bridge: Library & Community Hub this morning anytime from 10am to 12noon for free, practical, energy advice to help reduce energy use and costs. If you can't make it today, there's another drop in session at The Bridge on Tuesday 10th November 1pm to 3pm

The Plant & Produce stall at The Bridge today. Lots of eating apples and snack cucumbers and a few other things too. Don't miss out. We'd like to thank everyone who donates produce to the stall and everyone who gives a donation when they take something from our stall. We really appreciate your generosity and your support. Every penny that we take on the stall goes towards the running costs for The Bridge.

We couldn't let today go by without an ode to the wonderful human that was Dolly Parton. If there was anyone in the entire world who was as passionate about children's reading as us, it was Dolly.

If you don't already know, Dolly founded Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a book gifting program that sends out free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income.

After launching in 1995, the program grew quickly. First books were only distributed to children living in Sevier County, Tennessee where Dolly grew up. By 2003, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library had gifted one million books. It would prove to be the first of many millions of books sent to children around the world.

After the United States, the program launched in Canada in 2006, followed by the United Kingdom in 2007, Australia in 2013 and the Republic of Ireland in 2019.

Thank you, Dolly, for the books, and for the music. Sleep tight.

Calling All Cyclists!

Do you know about the Haydon Hundred?

It's the annual Cycling Sportive that starts and ends at The Bridge: Library & Community Hub in Haydon Bridge. There are 3 routes, 60Km; 100Km and 140Km, so it suits all abilities. The 140Km route - The Skyrider - takes in 5 of the 6 highest roads in England so it's a challenge!

On the plant & produce stall at The Bridge today we have tomato plants and hardy garden plants. Keep on checking the stall as more plants become available. And don't forget the annual plant sale at the end of this month - raising funds for the gardening group who keep the village looking so lovely
