York Tories The University of York Conservative and Unionist Association

The York Tories is one of the best-known university-level Conservative associations in the country, having acquired a rich and varied history despite its relative youth. We have developed over time as the largest of the political societies and as one of the most active and friendly student groups at the University of York. The association prides itself upon being a predominantly social student gro

up, brought together by politics. The society hosts a social each Wednesday evening during term, Hagueathons twice a year, as well as a Christmas and May Ball; often with a high-profile speaker at each. The society contains a wide range of political views from within the elected committee and across the society more broadly. The York Tories embrace such diversity of opinion and ideology, regularly discussing long-standing and contemporary issues both in a formal debate setting, and informally. The association hosts a debate or speaker event each and every Friday evening during term-time, regularly hearing from Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament and highly-regarded political thinkers.

This Wednesday we have one of our flagship events: The Fox Hunt

This pub crawl will start at 7pm at Courtyard. If you haven’t been to a Fox Hunt pub crawl before, we divide into two teams - Committee (as Foxes) and Everyone else (as Hunters). Each team follows the same route, but the Committee will have a 30 minute head start.

Along the route, each person must finish a pint or a large glass of wine (or a non-alcoholic beverage, should you wish) before your team can move to the next pub.

If the Foxes reach the final pub and finish their drinks, they win, but if the Hunters catch them on the way, they win!

See you there!

We were honoured to have our annual Spring Ball at the fantastic Churchill Hotel with our guest speaker Dr Ben Spencer.

Dr Spencer discussed a variety of topics with members of the society and reinforced the key message of support towards the Conservative Party. Additionally, as Shadow Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology, Dr Spencer had some insightful opinions on current geopolitics and the ever-changing landscape of the digital world.

Following the dinner, many of the guests finished the night in the Museum Street Tavern, with some continuing further into town as the night went on.

We hope you had a splendid time at the ball. Our thanks go especially to Dr Spencer, our hosts at The Churchill, and the Committee for organising the ball.
