Do you know the truth about recycling? ♻

This we’re separating fact from fiction, and showing you why your recycling really matters.

Recyclable materials are a valuable resource. After being collected, they are sorted at a Materials Recovery Facility before going to specialised facilities to become new products.

Find out more about how your recycling gets sorted here 👇️

It was a long, hot summer… but don’t leave your mini fan out in the cold! 🥶

We bought 1.14 billion items of FastTech in the UK in the last year - and we binned 11 million of them every week.

But even small electricals contain precious materials. So if you’re thinking of getting rid, donate your working unwanted tech to charity, sell it, or if it’s broken, recycle at an electrical recycling point.

We know this is an important route for many people in the eastern part of our district, so please allow extra time for your journey.

🌻 Our collection truck ‘Sunflower’ decided to make a quick stop at her namesake at Harestreet Holiday Barns sunflower patch after a busy day of collections. 🚛

Did you know that, on average, our Veolia - UK crews visit up to 1,120 households a day, collecting more than 16 tonnes of waste? And at the end of each day, they are washed down inside and out ready to collect again the next day.

Please give her a wave if you see her out and about collecting your bins across East Herts! 🌻

⚠️ Mill Stream car park – temporary closure ⚠️

The car park near Dicker Mill Industrial Estate, adjacent to Kingsmead Open Space in Hertford, will close from 6am on Thursday 3 September for around one week while repair works are carried out.

The car park will then reopen with new parking management arrangements, including 90 minutes’ free parking, followed by charges.

The arrangements are being introduced by Parking Eye Ltd, which will manage the car park as a whole. The Council is not employing the parking management company and will have no involvement in the day-to-day management or enforcement of the car park.

We hope the improvements will provide a better experience for users and help tackle issues including abandoned vehicles and anti-social behaviour.

We are disappointed to share that, following a review of the proposals, Cityheart has advised the council that the scheme submitted in the planning application is no longer financially viable.

This is extremely disappointing. The scheme had previously received support from the Old River Lane Board and was developed following extensive engagement and consultation with local residents, businesses and partners.

The viability challenges reflect wider market conditions affecting development projects across the country. Significant increases in construction costs, inflationary pressures and higher finance costs have all impacted the scheme. The proposals were also designed around the build-to-rent market, which has experienced weaker demand and returns than anticipated.

However, the vision for Old River Lane remains unchanged. The Board continues to support the ambition of creating a high-quality town centre destination, providing new homes, commercial space and a welcoming public square at the heart of Bishop's Stortford.

❗️Sheering Mill Lane Unauthorised Works❗️

We're pleased to share that, following our efforts to secure urgent further action, an amended High Court injunction was granted and served this morning around 12:30am.

Police entered the site this morning and all those who had unauthorised access, left the site peacefully.

The High Court injunction meant that anyone found carrying out activities prohibited by the injunction – including bringing caravans on site and occupying the land for carrying out development – could be arrested by the police. No arrests were necessary.

We will continue to work closely with Herts Police and our other partners to monitor the site and prevent any further unauthorised works.

We would also like to recognise the strength of the local community response over the past few days. Residents have worked hard to make their concerns heard and we are grateful to everyone who has kept us and our partners informed and supported efforts to bring the unauthorised activity to an end 🙏

Anyone with concerns about further activity at the site should report these to the police by calling 101.
