✨ Mental Health and Kindness This Christmas
As we head into the festive season, we want to pause and talk about something felt more than ever this year: mental health.
Across the Coastguard community, we’re seeing more incidents involving people who are struggling emotionally or mentally.
We can’t share details, but we can say this: the coast isn’t always a place for dog walks and views. Sometimes it’s where people go when life feels too heavy. And when that happens, our team - alongside the RNLI, Police, Ambulance, and other partners will always do everything we can to bring someone home safely.
Behind every callout is a person. Someone’s friend, someone’s family member. And behind every response are volunteers who carry those moments long after the pagers fall silent.
So as Christmas approaches, a joyful time for some and a difficult one for others.
💙 Kindness goes further than you think.
A check-in message.
A judgement-free chat.
A listening ear.
A moment of patience.
These small acts matter.
You don’t need to fix anything. Sometimes just showing up is enough.
And if you are the one struggling, please remember:
You are not alone.
You are not a burden.
There are people who would always rather hear from you than see you struggle in silence.
If you or someone you know needs urgent support, please reach out:
• Samaritans – 116 123 (24/7)
• Shout – Text SHOUT to 85258 (24/7)
• Mind – mind.org.uk
• NHS 111 – for urgent advice
Our coast is beautiful, but it can be unforgiving. Our community is strong, but none of us are meant to carry everything alone.
This winter, let’s look after each other.
Let’s choose kindness.
Let’s notice those who might feel unseen.
With compassion,
Your Clacton Coastguard Rescue Team 💙
