People of Hay!
What a night we had at the 5th Rolling Royal Court of Hay on Wye!
We celebrated king Richard, we also celebrated and reaffirmed our independence.
48 years ago our king Richard declared Hay-on-Wye to be independent, independent of those who would oppress us, he created a kingdom based on the principles of inclusion, of creativity and of rebellion! For this, he must be honoured.
As we all know one of the most famous legends from our shared history was when our king Richard booth declared himself as king and thus established our independent kingdom. The next most famous part of that story was that king Richard declared his horse as the prime minister.
As you have heard, the keeper and I have ambitious plans for our small state, plans that the 5th royal rolling court are now a part
So to act as the reincarnation of that fabled horse, and to serve as the second prime minister of Hay-on-Wye I introduce to you Mitch - who I entrust to the power of prime minister and of a horse. Along with his new Cabinet - the hounds of justice.
The evening would not have been complete without the anointing of the next Flaming Lady of Hay - Congratulations to Emily Daw. Nominated for all her stupendous work around
Thanks to Ami , keeper of the arts and rebellion and head of the Hay-G-B and C.I.Hay, and Maggie for organising the evening! And to our hosts .distillery
