Few calls for Hereford today! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ

Whites and Alpha mobilised to reports of a house fire in Fownhope. On arrival it appeared that a fire, confined to the cooker was extinguished prior to our arrival. Crews cleared smoke logging using a PPV Fan and fitted smoke and heat detectors.

Alpha responded to reports of a RTC on the B4349 on the Clehonger road, supporting Peterchurch Fire Station.

Both Alpha and White mobilised to reports of a water rescue near Newtown Brook, whilst on our way we received a message confirming person was out of the water and in safe hands - our attendance wasnโ€™t required, returned to station.

Whites mobilised to the ongoing incident in the Blackwell area of Bromsgrove.

Crews from across H&W, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Fire Service tackled the blaze involving a derelict building.

During the incident crews used CAFS (foam) jets, main jets and hose reels to tackle the fire. The incident has now been scaled back but damping down and turning over of the debris still continues.

Both crews attended along with Helimed, Critical Care Doctors, WMAS and West Mercia Police. A49 remains closed in both directions for collision investigation.

Sadly over recent days there has been a number of water-related incidents resulting in loss of life.

Please donโ€™t enter rivers, lakes, reservoirs or other open water sources however tempting it might be to โ€˜cool offโ€™.

Water can be unpredictable and the thermal shock of cold water can significantly impact on your ability to swim and function.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by these tragic incidents and our fellow emergency services.

Sadly, a teenage girl has died in a lake not far from our border yesterday evening. Our thoughts are with the girl's family, friends and our emergency service colleagues.

We know the weather is extremely hot and open water is appealing to cool off in, but please be aware of the dangers and ensure your children are too.

We don't want to be reporting a similar tragedy - so our plea to you is to enjoy the sun safely.

Today Alpha and Whites spent the day with the Charlie Command Group (Flexi Duty Officers) covering our response to wildfires. The day consisted of a theory session covering:

Types of wildfire incidents โ›ฐ๏ธ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Wildfire terminology ๐Ÿ“š
Use of resources ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš
Updates to wildfire responses nationally and regionally ๐Ÿ“

Later we also completed equipment familiarisation on the type of kit we carry on our 4x4 Off-Road asset.

To consolidate the day we participated in a table top exercise, led by our Group Commander, Dave Swallow.

This focussed on developing a tactical plan, control lines, map reading and applying the LACES safety protocol. ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿš’๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ”ฅ

This was an ideal session for firefighters, Level 1 Incident Commanders and Level 2 / 3 Incident Commanders to share experience and knowledge with each other.

White Watch mobilised in the Land Rover to assist West Mercia Police with a missing person (misper) search in the Malvern Hills area.

Working together with crews from Worcester Fire Station, Ledbury Fire Station (drone unit), HWFRS Search and Rescue Dog and the National Police Air Service (NPAS) crews searched areas of interest.

The aircraftโ€™s thermal imaging camera located a heat source and directed police units and fire crews, thankfully one person was located safely.

Today, 4th of May, is Firefighters Memorial Day. We will pause to remember all those that lost their lives in the line of duty. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’โค๏ธ

NEWS | Today is Firefightersโ€™ Memorial Day and we are remembering the two firefighters who lost their lives fighting one of the biggest fires that the city of Hereford has ever seen.

At its height, 130 firefighters using 23 pumping appliances were at the scene of the fire at a factory formerly known as โ€˜Sun Valleyโ€™.

Among them were David Morris and John Davies who never made it out of the factory.

John Davies, who was 34, was a retained Firefighter from Leominster but, as he worked in Hereford, would often attend emergencies in the city.

Meanwhile, 35-year-old David Morris was a fulltime Firefighter with 11 yearsโ€™ service when he responded to the fire which started in a unit for defrosting meat.

Insulation panels in the factory ceiling meant smoke and flames travelled unnoticed through the roof space, setting fire to ceilings which collapsed.

Sadly both firefighters lost their lives. We think of them today โ€” as we often do. โค๏ธ
