Our camera trap captured this lovely Jay very carefully burying an acorn. Fantastic to see this classic behaviour up close!

Thanks, as always to the camera trap volunteers 💚

Thanks to Paul Lloyd for sharing these fantastic photos of a pair of oystercatchers which have returned to the lake.

Oystercatchers began breeding here a few years ago following a project to create better habitat for wading birds with islands and more areas of shallows so hopefully this pair will stay and breed successfully this year.

The oystercatcher is very noisy wading bird with a loud 'peep-ing' call. Originally a coastal species, the oystercatcher has moved further inland over the last 50 years to breed on waterways and lakes. Most UK birds still spend their winters by the sea, however, and are joined by birds from Norway and Iceland.

Caught on camera - December...

The volunteer team located a camera in the orchard to see what animals and birds were attracted to the windfall apples. Lots of chaffinches and the occasional brambling (pictured) were recorded - a lovely little bird to spot! They also picked up rabbit, fox, squirrel and muntjac.

Thanks, as ever, to the fantastic Camera Trap Team!

A friendly reminder that, as a haven for wildlife, we ask that dogs are kept on leads at Bodenham Lake and not allowed to go into the water.

This is in to order to:

🦆 limit disturbance to wildlife (we have schedule 1 protected species nesting on the lake as well as diverse species across the site)
🐕 keep dogs safe from poisonous algae blooms
🐕 keep dogs safe from other hazards including very deep, sticky mud (one dog had to be rescued by its owner this week as it was sinking and unable to get free)

Many thanks for your cooperation 😊
