Please join us in welcoming Widge Woolsey as Henley Town Council’s new Town Centre Manager.

Widge is already a familiar face within the local community. She lives in Henley town centre and brings with her a wealth of experience, energy and enthusiasm for both people and place.
Before joining the Town Council, Widge worked at the renowned Diddly Squat Farm, where she gained first-hand experience of managing busy visitor environments. Her career has also spanned a variety of sectors, including finance, logistics, administration and the film industry, giving her a broad skill set that she now brings to the heart of Henley.

Alongside her professional career, Widge is the founder of Ufulu, a charity working to tackle period poverty in Malawi. Inspired by friendships she formed while travelling in Africa, she established the organisation in 2019 to provide menstrual cups to women and girls who would otherwise miss school or work because of a lack of access to sanitary products. Since its launch, Ufulu has supported tens of thousands of women and girls across Malawi, helping them to live with greater dignity, confidence, and opportunity.

As Town Centre Manager, Widge is looking forward to working closely with local businesses, residents, community groups, and visitors, to celebrate everything that makes Henley special and to help our town continue to thrive.

🌼 Supporting Biodiversity Across Henley 🌼

Henley Town Council is trialling a new approach to verge management in 2026 to help create richer habitats for pollinators and local wildlife.

As part of the Biodiversity Verges Management Plan, selected roadside verges will be managed differently to encourage wildflowers and natural growth. This means reducing mowing in some areas, leaving margins for wildlife, and allowing grasses and plants to flower and set seed. Some sites will still include maintained strips for safety and access.

The trial sites were identified in collaboration with biodiversity experts, councillors and the Parks Team, following mapping work carried out earlier this year.

Alongside this, Henley’s growing network of community-led “Nectar Cafés”, including gardens, schools, churchyards, businesses and other green spaces, is helping provide food and habitat for bees and other important pollinators. 🐝

A new “Biodiversity Havens” project is also being explored with residents in selected streets, encouraging even more wildlife-friendly spaces across the town.

Together, these initiatives reflect Henley Town Council’s ongoing commitment to enhancing green spaces, increasing biodiversity and supporting a healthier natural environment for both people and wildlife.

From design to production: It was lovely to see the Bug Hotel design going up on a tree near St Mary's Church.

A competition was run last year to "Design a Bug hotel of an iconic Henley building" and this was the winning design - designed by Stephen Kettell.

It was built by Anthony Duckett and put up with the help of his grandchildren.
