Today, Wednesday 9th September, we join the nation in honouring those who have lost their lives serving our communities for Emergency Services Day (999 Day). At 9:00 am, we'll hold a two-minute silence to remember the dedication and bravery of emergency service personnel.
We invite you to join us in this moment of reflection. Today, we'd also love to hear your messages of support for the emergency service personnel who continue to protect our communities every day.

We were delighted to welcome a special guest to Henley Fire station last week. A local youngster, Leo, has been very busy making and selling loom band bracelets and necklaces. Wanting to show his appreciation to all firefighters, Leo decided to donate the money he made to The Firefighters Charity as a thank you. Leo said, “They have been working so hard recently with the rise in fires last month”.

As a thank you, Leo visited Henley Fire Station, where his godfather is also a wholetime firefighter. During his visit, he met the crew, took a look around the fire appliances and even received a special surprise when Fire Control carried out a test turnout and included a message of thanks to Leo in the fire log.

We hear Leo might like to become a firefighter one day. If that's the case, we'd be delighted to welcome him back to Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service in the future.

Thank you again, Leo. Your support means a great deal to us and to The Firefighters Charity.

🏕️ Planning a camping trip this August Bank Holiday?
With dry weather increasing the risk of fire, we're asking everyone to take extra care when camping, whether you're staying at a festival, campsite or enjoying the countryside.
🔥 Keep camping stoves and gas canisters well away from BBQs and other sources of heat.
🔥 Do not use disposable BBQs. They can remain dangerously hot long after use and can easily start fires if placed on dry grass or disposed of incorrectly. Never use BBQs, cooking equipment or gas appliances inside tents or enclosed spaces.
🔥 Never leave cooking equipment unattended and always ensure it has fully cooled before moving or disposing of it.
🚬 Extinguish ci******es completely and dispose of them responsibly. A discarded cigarette can quickly ignite dry grass and vegetation.
Let's all do our bit to prevent fires and keep ourselves, fellow campers and Warwickshire safe this Bank Holiday weekend. See less

What might seem like harmless curiosity or ‘something to do’ with friends can quickly turn into something much more serious.
We’re asking parents and carers to have open, honest conversations with children about the risks.
Even if they’re part of a group, choosing to set fires or being present when it happens – can still lead to serious consequences.
Please remind children:
Never to play with fire
To leave the area immediately if a fire is started
To tell a trusted adult
To call 999 if a fire starts
Fire setting can put lives at risk, harm wildlife and the environment, and have lasting impacts on those involved.

5:00pm Thursday 13 August. Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service have declared a major incident due to a large fire in Salford Priors. There is a large emergency presence in the area and we continue to advise residents nearby to close all doors and windows. Please stay away from the area. Our control room is receiving a large number of calls, so please contact us only in a genuine emergency.
It's imperative that residents take all steps to reduce any fire risk. Please read advice on our social media channels about fire and water safety. You can make all the difference.

If you're feeling the heat, there are a few tips you can follow to ensure you are hydrated and protected:

- Drink fluids regularly throughout the day

- Take a refillable bottle of water

- Stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm (when the sun is strongest)

- Apply sunscreen generously and re-apply frequently (especially after activities that remove it e.g. swimming)

Warwickshire is once again experiencing another heatwave with heat health warnings in place. During hot weather, water-related incidents increase and it's especially important to remind children and young people of the dangers of entering water, there are often hidden risks such as cold-water shock or currents.
Would your child know what to do if they found themselves in a dangerous situation? 🆘 Show them this video and teach them the ‘Float to Live' technique. It could save their life one day!

Our crews have attended multiple field fires across Warwickshire recently. During warm, dry conditions, fires can quickly escalate as these photos taken by our crew at Atherstone Fire Station show.
As the weather forecast is for more heat, we want to remind residents of the following ways you can help:
• 🚭 Never discard ci******es, matches or smoking materials on the ground
• 🍖 Take extra care when using BBQs and only using them in appropriate locations with extinguishing materials nearby. Please don’t use disposable BBQs
• 🗑️ Take litter home, especially glass bottles which can contribute to fire risk
• 🔥 Avoiding bonfires wherever possible. We strongly discourage bonfires as they can easily get out of control and create unnecessary fire risk, particularly during dry weather
• 📞 Report fires or any suspicious behaviour immediately by calling 999
A wildfire can spread rapidly, threatening wildlife, property, farmland and local communities. Please help us to keep you safe. See less
