The Rotary Club of Helston received its Charter from Rotary International in 1957 and at that time had 28 founder members. Since then, the Club membership has risen to around 40 with new members joining from time to time. The Club is also involved with the larger area of Rotary District 1175, which

comprises all the clubs in Devon and Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, along with the cities of Plymouth, Truro and Exeter plus the towns and hamlets nestling on the western edge of the granite uplands of Dartmoor - all fall within the Rotary district. District 1175 holds periodic District Council Meetings, an annual District Assembly, and an annual conference, usually at a seaside resort. All members can attend District meetings and the conference. Our Club is also a constituent of Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland; which has a Secretariat at Offices based in Alcester, Warwickshire. RIBI operates under its own Rules and Constitution, though under the overriding umbrella of Rotary International (RI) based in Evanston, Chicago USA.

Remember remember, the 11th of December - why not?
It was the date last year of The Rotary Club of Helston's 25th anniversary Carol Singing in Central Methodist Church, Helston.
The money we raised has gone to the Sowenna Appeal in Bodmin which is raising money for equipment and therapeutic programmes that go above what the NHS provides, to aid activities which will have a positive impact on the mental health, wellbeing and recovery of children and young people in Cornwall.
Club President Chris Knight and Vice President Tim Grattan-Kane visited the hospital for children suffering from mental health problems to formally present them with a cheque for £2000.
They have told us that the money we gave will go to the extras needed and gave an example about a child who came to them from such an impoverished household, that they had no footwear.
Pictured here from the left are Henry Lewis, Chris Knight, Amy Dawes, Tim Grattan-Kane and Laura Patrick.

At a recent meeting, held at Queens Arms, Breage, our Rotary Club members were given a talk by Colin Savage and Marcus Laugher about the progress of Helston Railway.
They are both pictured here with Club President Chris Knight and we have donated £500 to this very worthy cause.
The railway now has charitable status and can now apply for more grants to extend the track and facilities.
Having already purchased the viaduct overlooking Lowertown, which is the tallest structure on any UK preserved railway, they have plans to bring the railway into Helston in a field near the Lowertown roundabout.
The railway started operating in 1887 and was a victim of the Dr Beeching cuts to local railway branch lines, closing to passengers in 1962 and freight two years later, the track was then removed in 1966.
Our Club meets every Thursday at the Queens Arms at 1800 for 1830, you don't have to wait to be invited to join us, just contact us at [email protected].

The Rotary Club of Helston who get together every Thursday at 1800 for 1830 in the Queen's Arms in Breage have been tidying up and painting the white washed wall on Penrose Road.
