Thank you to everyone who joined us today at The Guildhall for Merchant Navy Day. It was a privilege to come together to remember the seafarers of the Merchant Navy, past and present, and to mark the day with the raising of the Red Ensign.

Our thanks to all who attended, and to the seafarers we honour today, thank you for everything you have given and continue to give.

🗓️ Meeting notice: Events Committee meeting, Tuesday 8th September 2026 at 7pm at The Guildhall, Helston, TR13 8ST

Helston Town Council meetings are open to the public, and we welcome residents to observe and get involved in local decision-making.
Members of the public may speak for up to 3 minutes each, with a total of 15 minutes allocated for public participation at each meeting.
If you require a printed copy of the agenda, please request one at least 24 hours ahead of the meeting. You can do this by emailing [email protected], calling 01326 572063 or coming in to see us at The Guildhall. We are open 9am - 4pm, Monday - Friday (excluding bank holidays)

Merchant Navy Day is on Thursday, and we would love you to join us.⁠

On Thursday 3rd September there will be a small reception at The Guildhall from 10.30am, followed by the raising of the Red Ensign at 11am.⁠

It's a day to remember the seafarers of the Merchant Navy, past and present, and to say thank you for everything they have given and everyone is welcome. ⁠

If you have any dietary or accessibility requirements, please dive us a ring on 01326 572063 or email [email protected] and we will make sure you're looked after.

Cornwall Council has notified us that overnight closures will be in place on the A394 between Longrock and Treliever from Monday 7th September, while routine highway maintenance is carried out by Cormac.

The work includes minor repairs, gully emptying, sign cleaning, and verge and hedge cutting. It will be carried out at night between 7pm and 6am, when traffic levels are lowest, and in phases so that each closure is kept as short as possible.

The planned phases are:

Monday 7th to Thursday 10th September: Penzance to Ashton
Monday 14th to Sunday 20th September: Ashton to Helston
Monday 21st to Thursday 24th September: Helston to Rame
Monday 28th September to Thursday 1st October: Rame to Falmouth

Bus services will be given access through the closed sites and will travel slowly to keep the working area safe.

These dates are correct at the time of circulation but may change, particularly in poor weather. Advance notice boards on site will be updated where possible.

West Cornwall Women's Aid is asking women across West Cornwall to share their views on a new community engagement programme.

The survey asks about how safe you feel in your community, the activities you would like to see, anything that makes it harder to take part, and how you would like to be involved in shaping activities and services for women.

It takes around 5 to 10 minutes to complete and all responses are treated confidentially.
