From 1st April 2025 the Museum of Cornish Life will no longer be hosting the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Since welcoming our first Finds Liaison Officer in October 2020 we have enjoyed meeting many finders and learning about their archaeological discoveries. The British Museum manages the scheme and they are currently exploring options for taking forward the Portable Antiquities Scheme in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.

If you find Treasure or something that urgently needs reporting, please contact the PAS on [email protected] or call 0207323 8611/8618.

Thank you to the British Museum and Cornwall Council for their support in hosting the scheme and to Lara Hogg, Tasha Fullbrook and Laura Miucci for all their hard work in delivering the scheme as Finds Liaison Officers at the Museum of Cornish Life.

For today's , it's a special message from Laura.

As many of you will know, from the 1st April, the Museum of Cornish Life will no longer be hosting the PAS. Work is underway by the British Museum to find a new host.

It is has been an immense pleasure and a honour to serve you all - I have truly loved being your F.L.O, and creating a living community of history & heritage enthusiasts, from all walks of life.

I've loved all the finds recording, the running of children's workshops, working with the Coroner on Treasure Cases, and all of the community outreach talks.

I want to thank my predecessor Tasha for all her support while I was finding my feet in the role, and to all my fellow SW F.L.Os, who were always there for support. I also want to thank the for all their support with the role, and to all the heritage bodies, finders, museums, and people that I have worked with during my tenure.

Cornwall is a beautiful place:
In the words of Harry Glasson, a fellow Penzancer, this is my Cornwall, and this is my home. It is here I was born and here I will die.

I've loved the opportunity, and I'm sure I'll see many of you at various events throughout Cornwall

Meur ras, hag onen hag oll!
Gans gorhemynadow a'n gwella
With love, Laura

For today’s , we’re celebrating a wonderful week of Cornish Museums 😍

On Saturday 15th, Laura hosted another Identities workshop at Museum of Cornish Life Museum of Cornish Life, and finished preparing activities for 🌸

Yesterday, Wednesday 19th, PAS Cornwall headed down to Penlee House Gallery & Museum Penlee House Gallery & Museum, where Laura curated their new “community archaeology” display, which features some PAS finds and two recently acquired Treasure finds (a Roman intaglio ring, and an early-Medieval brooch fragment, see Penlee’s socials for more!) 🌎

Laura also had the opportunity to help update some of the permanent displays, which included re-displaying finds in the “Early Medieval and beyond” display, and checking captions 🏺

This weekend, the Museum of Cornish Life will open specially, ALL weekend, so we can participate in Spring Thing; a heritage adventure weekend taking place across Helston, using grant funding 🏛

There will be a Corn Dolly workshop on Saturday 22nd, and Laura, her Student Placement Tanya, plus other heritage volunteers, will be running archaeological activities all Sunday (23rd)! 💍

Called “Unearthed”, each workshop will last for around 40 minutes, and we’ll be running them from 10:30am until 3:30pm (last entry at 3pm), under Laura’s new business venture, a CIC called Lore & Piece, with funding from King’s Trust The King's Trust✏️

For today's , there was a slight delay, as PAS Cornwall has a road trip this weekend! 🚗

Had a wonderful time in Cardiff on Monday, photographing some Welsh finds, and catching up with our lovely associates at Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Caerdydd - National Museum Cardiff National Museum of Wales // Amgueddfa Cymru 🏛️

Also, how noticeable is the difference in preservation between Cornish, and Welsh soils? Which coin do you think is which? 🪙

We then had the immense pleasure of working with University of Cardiff to do some XRF-testing on some finds, which are earmarked for an academic article coming your way in 2025! 📚

And on our way back, we had a nice catch-up with some of our other SW colleagues, and explored some Devon castles 🏰

Lovely time working away!
We are now back in beautiful Cornwall, and Laura will be hosting more children's workshops THIS Saturday (15th), this time at Museum of Cornish Life, drop-in 10:30am - 2:30pm.
