This weekend was an active weekend for our crew at Garelochhead community fire station.

On Friday evening we attended a chimney fire, luckily this was contained and extinguished very quickly and we were back to station within an hour.

Saturday afternoon, road traffic collision was our next call and fortunately nothing serious.

Saturday evening, a small fire in the open that the crew extinguished very quickly and we were on our way again.

Early hours of Sunday morning fire alarm sound, building inspected nothing identified and back on our way.

Being an on call firefighter isn’t just attending fires, as you can see from the weekend we’ve just had the incidents vary and no two jobs are the same. All outcomes from these incidents were positive ones.

Is this something you would be interested in being part of? Would you like to help make a difference and be there when called upon to help others?

If so, we are recruiting! Get in contact with the station or find the job application on myjobscotland.

Everyone can play their part and prevent these wildfires, enjoy this very rare nice weather we are having, be responsible and avoid fires and disposable BBQs where possible.

Drill night this evening was a much more enjoyable one, with the sun splitting the sky it always makes things that bit more enjoyable.

Some happy faces here from the crew and some serious thinking faces too.

You may have even seen our crew driving around the village testing hydrants to ensure the safety of our community remains at the forefront at everything we do.

Are you using medical oxygen at home?

Oxygen, even at low flows, can saturate everyday items such as clothing, furniture, and carpets. This creates an environment where fires can ignite and spread rapidly. Simple activities, like smoking or charging electronic devices near oxygen equipment, can lead to catastrophic accidents.

Avoid fire risks by following these guidelines for proper oxygen use and storage:
