The Old Brickworks Nature Reserve

The Old Brickworks Nature Reserve A small but valuable green oasis, approximately 1.5miles east of Cannock. The area has had a diverse history.

Classified as a Site of Biological Interest, the reserve supports a wide variety of important habitats including woodland, wetland and meadow areas. The reserve comes alive during the summer with a burst of colourful wildflowers and butterflies. A thriving clay pit and brick making factory in the 1950s, nature reclaimed the area once the industry had gone. Situated in the middle of a busy urban en

vironment, the reserve now provides an excellent opportunity for people to experience the joys of nature on their doorsteps.

๐Ÿ“ธ๐ŸŒฟ Happy National Nature Photography Day ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ“ธ

National Nature Photography Day is a great reminder to slow down and spend some time outdoors. Taking photos in nature encourages us to look more closely at the world around us โ€“ from wildflowers and insects to birds, trees and changing landscapes.

Spending time in nature can benefit both our physical and mental wellbeing, helping to reduce stress, improve mood and encourage mindfulness. Photography can enhance those benefits by giving us a reason to pause, observe and appreciate the small details we might otherwise miss.

If you're visiting the reserve today, why not bring your camera or phone and see what catches your eye? Better still, why not enter your favourite shot into the Land Trust's Summer Photography Competition? You could win a ยฃ75 prize while showcasing the beauty of your local green space.

We'd love to see your photos too, so feel free to share them in the comments below.

As always, please give wildlife plenty of space and stick to designated paths while exploring.

A lovely sight at the Old Brickworks this week โ€“ Common Spotted Orchids are now in bloom! ๐ŸŒธ

One of the UK's most widespread wild orchids, these beautiful plants can be recognised by their pink-purple flower spikes and the distinctive dark spots on their leaves.

No two Common Spotted Orchids are exactly alike. The patterns and markings on each flower can vary, making every plant unique.

If you're visiting the site, keep an eye out for these stunning wildflowers and remember to admire them from a distance so they can continue to thrive.

Happy World Bee Day! ๐Ÿ

Today weโ€™re celebrating bees, butterflies and other pollinators that help keep our nature reserves thriving. From wildflower meadows to hedgerows and woodland edges, these species are a vital part of healthy ecosystems. ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒฟ

Itโ€™s estimated that around 75% of the worldโ€™s flowering plants depend on animal pollinators - showing just how important bees are to both nature and people.

Through habitat management, dead hedging, meadow restoration and allowing areas to grow naturally, we can all play a part in supporting pollinators and biodiversity.

Next time you visit the reserve, take a moment to stop, listen, and appreciate the buzz of nature at work. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ

Fun Fact Friday!๐Ÿž

Did you know there are around 5,000 species of ladybirds worldwide? ๐ŸŒ

These tiny insects may be small, but they are incredibly helpful in our green spaces. A single ladybird can eat up to 5,000 aphids in its lifetime, helping to protect plants and crops naturally.

Ladybirds are also full of clever survival tricks. When threatened, they can release a foul-tasting yellow fluid from their legs or even play dead to avoid predators!

Many cultures see ladybirds as a symbol of good luck, and itโ€™s believed to be unlucky to harm them. ๐Ÿ€

Next time you spot one, take a closer look at these fascinating little insects and the important role they play in nature. ๐Ÿ’š
