Notice of Memorial Safety Inspection 20th April 2026

Notice is hereby given that Heath and Reach Parish Council will carry out safety checks on all memorials within the cemeteries on the above date.

If you own a grave or memorial, you have a duty of care to maintain it safely and abide by cemetery regulations.

If your memorial fails the safety test and has not been adequately maintained, warning notices will be placed upon them.

This will allow grave deed owners and those responsible for the upkeep of memorials to contact the Parish Clerk and arrange for a memorial stonemason to carry out professional repairs to BRAMM standards.

It is not the responsibility of the Parish Council to maintain memorials.

You should contact us right away if a notice is placed on your memorial.

We will try to trace graves’ families if an address is held in our records. We will also place notices on the Parish and Cemetery notice boards and website informing grave / memorial owners of any unsafe memorials.

We are responsible for maintaining a safe cemetery, which could involve laying flat memorials considered a danger or placing a notice/ warning sign on an unstable memorial.

We accept no responsibility if appropriate action must be taken to a memorial, not to the grave owner’s liking, as ample warning has been given of the impending work. The safety work will be carried out to ensure that the cemetery remains a safe and pleasant place to visit.

Any grave owners or persons responsible for the upkeep of a memorial should email [email protected] if they know that their memorial is over 5 years old, as we may not have their present contact details.

Please keep in mind that this work is necessary to ensure the safety of all visitors to our cemetery.

The Parish Council has taken the decision to close the dog off lead field until further notice due to the holes in the ground. On completion of the repairs, the field will be re-opened.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Only a few days left to register your response to the leaflet posted through everyone's door early February. The point of this information was not only to inform residents of the predicament PC find themselves in with regards to traffic calming, but to also get your advice on how the Parish Council should use the money held in reserve.
