🚫💧 Shipley Country Park 💧🚫

Unfortunately we have had to close the toilets and the cafe at the visitor centre today due to a burst water pipe. The building currently has no running water, we are waiting for an update from Severn Trent Water and will update once we can reopen. If you are visiting the site today, alternative toilets can still be used at Mapperley Car Park and Derby Lodge.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Knock, knock. Who’s there? Quack! Quack who? Quack open the door and you’ll see!

Ayup me ducks, we've gone quackers here at Shipley 🦆

Following the Amber Valley 'Ayup me duck' trail, the wonderfully painted ducks have spread out to some popular tourists destinations and one has landed itself at Shipley Country Park for the summer.

Bring your binoculars to the park and see if you can spot this rare duck the next time you call in!

Come and join us for some volunteering taster sessions or just a chat about volunteering opportunities. We'll be joined by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and The Woodland Trust to showcase what volunteering involves and how you can get involved.

There will be a selection of activities to take part in on the day and there will be representatives from each of the organisations to answer any questions.

This year marks a truly special milestone – 50 years of Shipley Country Park! 🎉
From its industrial past to the beautiful green space we know and love today, the park has been at the heart of the community for half a century. Generations of visitors have walked its trails, explored its woodlands, spotted wildlife, and made lasting memories along the way. 🐦🌳

Whether you come for a peaceful stroll, a family adventure, or simply to enjoy nature at its best, Shipley Country Park continues to be a place where people can connect – with each other and with the outdoors.
Here’s to 50 years of nature, heritage, and community… and to many more to come! 💚

Shipley Country Park - Slack Lane Entrance and Osbornes Dam Entrance - Limited Access

From Thursday afternoon 14/5 - Friday morning 15/5 We will have contractors working on the roads so there will be times when the access roads are closed to allow for repairs. Please use alternative access during this time. Barriers between Mapperley car park and Derby Lodge will be open during this time to ease pressure and provide an alternative route. We aim to have the works completed as soon as possible.

You may have noticed some activity here at Shipley over the last few months. We have been working with Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust/Wildscapes to install a number of ponds. Funded by Natural England, the ponds will support the conservation and long-term viability of Great Crested Newts.

The project will also contribute to enhancing local biodiversity and will contribute to regional and national nature recovery objectives. 🐸🪷

As we wait for the rains to fill them up, keep an eye out as you walk by and watch these spaces transform!

Mapperley Dam - Shipley Country Park
Car Park Closed - Thursday 26 March
8am - 4pm
We will have contractors working on the access track to Mapperley car park at Shipley Country Park. There is no access during working hours. We aim to re-open as soon as possible.
The main car park at the visitor centre remains open.
