What a treat to have local crime author Simon Mason visit us for an author talk this past Thursday! Simon talked all things writing, publishing, and everything in between. Even a good few laughs were had—overall, a wonderful evening for literary lovers (especially literature of the crime variety!).

Thanks so much to Simon for lending us his evening and Caper Books for supplying Simon’s books for attendees to purchase 📚

In , we have a rich local history of singers, silver bands and morris dancers and musicians. What musical memories would you like to share?

Oxfordshire has always had an incredible live music scene. Perhaps you were at the Jericho Tavern, when bands like Radiohead and Supergrass played before they hit the big time? And more recently, artists like Stornoway, Ride and Foals have continued that tradition.

But the story goes back even further…

In the 1950s and 60s, the place to be was the Pressed Steel Social and Athletic Club in Cowley. This photo shows The Silver … band taking part in a ‘Twist and Shake’ contest in the Club Ballroom in June 1964.

* Do you remember this venue – or know someone who does?

* Recognise the band, or have a story to share?

We’d love to hear your memories – or the stories passed down to you
With thanks to Oxfordshire History Centre for the image.
