Are we seeing double?

Yes, we are! 🦩🦩

Flamingo egg number two has been laid - this time by Edwina and Anthony on the nest to the left.

It is sure to be an interesting few weeks as flamingos like to nest close together but then frequently squabble over their little territories. If fertile, the first egg, laid by Penelope and Colin on the right, is expected to hatch around 24th June, with this new egg due around 30th June.

You can watch the action live on our we**am here > https://paradisepark.org.uk/events-and-news/flamingo-we**am/

Derek and Frankie’s Parents
It feels especially lovely that Edwina and Anthony have laid an egg this year, if all goes well this would be a little brother or sister to both Derek and Frankie. If we are lucky enough to welcome another chick - or perhaps even two - we will, of course, do things a little differently to last year.

Many of you have asked for news about Frankie the flamingo who flew to France. We are truly touched by how many people think of her and have continued to keep the blog page on our website for everyone following her story. The last possible sightings were on Christmas Day in the Lanvoy area of Finistère, suggesting she had travelled further south along the coast of France, and then again on 4 January, even further south, at Salinas del Carmen in Fuerteventura.

We dearly hope that she has found a flock to join and is safe and well. If we hear anything more, we will continue to share updates here: https://paradisepark.org.uk/flamingo-chick-news-2025/

Critically Endangered Edward’s Pheasant set to return to the wild!

Our pair of Critically Endangered Edward’s pheasants (also known as Vietnam pheasants) have bred again this year, and in this photo, you can see the female with one of her two chicks. This remarkable species has not been reliably recorded in the wild for decades, so every breeding success is an important step forward. The birds at Paradise Park are part of a wider international project with the Vietnamese government to help reintroduce the species from captive populations. We are thrilled to announce that 20 pheasants bred by European zoos are due to be transported from Berlin to Vietnam as part of the reintroduction efforts, with the goal of returning the species to the wild.

The return of the Vietnam pheasant presents a rare opportunity to revive a species long believed to be extinct. It stands as a strong example of how ongoing conservation breeding and international cooperation can help protect the world’s biodiversity.

Read more about the work to restore this species to the wild on the World Pheasant Association website here https://www.pheasant.org.uk/bring-back-blue/

The children have spotted the Lilac-breasted Rollers who are happily perched on a branch in front of them while they take photos 😃🤳

Thank you to everyone for your lovely feedback about your visits during Half Term.

“We had a wonderful visit on Thursday! My granddaughters loved feeding the lorikeets; counting otters; screaming on the train; spotting the red panda! The Dinosaur show was a fabulous experience and such great fun. Naughty Jeremy! Thank you Paradise Park.” From Karen Cleobury

We really appreciate your support and so glad everyone enjoyed the new DINO SHOW which continues through to the end of August.

The show is weather permitting, but even if the rain means our big dinosaurs need to rest, the adventure continues at 1:30pm with a great chance to come and meet our lovable baby dinos with their Rangers for a special photo opportunity, where you can ask questions and discover fascinating facts about these incredible prehistoric creatures.
