Flying over the Halt today is the Vietnam War Veterans flag as the USA mark National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

It flies to remember local hero Rick Rescorla, who served their with distinction earning a

Silver Star 🏅

Bronze Star 🏅

And a

Purple Heart 💜

As part of the spring clean at the Halt a number of bird 🐦 boxes 📦 have been placed around the Halt to encourage more of our feathered friends to settle in the area.

The Halt is a little haven for wildlife and we have seen.

Slow worms 🪱
Frogs 🐸
Toads 🐸
Rabbits 🐇
Foxes 🐕
Mice 🐁
Shrew 🐭

We know Badgers and Hedgehogs also visit and bird 🐦 ranges from wrens to raptors and a number of pollinators from bees 🐝 to other insects 🐜 like leave cutters, to ladybirds and even a stick insect!

The GWR Night 🌙 Riveria Sleeper Train passed by The Veterans Charity site at The Veterans Halt and had a wonderful send off under the Northern Lights.

From a little idea created at The Veterans Halt to a global act of remembrance.

There are options to take part from the Sleeper Train service on the 10th of November to the first train on the 11th from Penzance.

Poppies to Paddington is back!

This year sees the sixth outing of The Veterans Charity and GWR event in what is a very special year for the railways - Railway200.

It is also the 170th anniversary of military railways - first created in the Crimean War to support the British Army and our allies in the Armée de Terre and the Turkish armed forces.

The Grand Crimean Central Railway was engaged in the Siege of Sevastopol who were stationed on a plateau between Balaklava and Sevastopol. It also carried the world's first hospital train.

There are going to be a number of special wreaths including:

Military Railway 170
VE Day 80
VJ Day 80

Starting stations this year include:

Penzance
Hereford
Carmarthen
Paignton
Plymouth
Aschurch (Tewkesbury)
Great Malvern
Taunton
Bristol Temple Meads

With many more in between of course, a minimum of 74 stations, 75 with Paddington Station being the final receiving station.

We hope you will get onboard in this most moving of years.

10th of November - Night Train for those I'm Cornwall returns for its second run.

11th November for the morning trains - all scheduled to arrive before 11am.

Sad to see that the Royal train is on its way out of service.

It once passed by the Veterans Halt - well the locomotive 🚂 did around the time of the G7 conference / events at the Eden Project when HM Queen Elizabeth Ii came to Cornwall.

Many of our breakfast club members are hopeful a carriage will find its way here!

You never know 😉
