For Armed Forces Day yesterday we organised a special Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Clubs with the Camborne & Redruth AFVBC meet here at The Veterans Charity venue known as The Veterans Halt.
It turned out our trackside venue had a couple of immaculate heritage trains running by (all planned of course... ahem) on excursions from Derby.
Besides the heritage locomotives, the regular visitors from CrossCountry trains and GWR passed by. Including the poppy train, one of the main inspirations for - which was very fitting as we sat painting poppies!
Following the breakfast the veterans got fully creative and started on the second batch of scallop shell poppies that will form part of a major 9/11 tribute to the victims and local hero Rick Rescorla.
The shells are donated from Newlyn Harbour, the bamboo stalks come from Riveria Produce. Whilst the paint comes from Dulux and holding it all together are screws from B&Q ! Thank you all for your support!
Redruth School,A Technology College are helping create a 1000 blooms as part of the tribute to honour all the victims of the September 11th attacks.
We still need volunteers 🙋‍♀️ to make more.
Devon & Cornwall Police PCSO Jeremy Kewn, a British Army veteran, also introduced us to The Forcer Protocol which we will be sharing as part of our work at The Veterans Charity. The VAPC SW Team have also been informed.
A cracking day - thank you to all who have supported us.
