Could you help us keep Hayfield looking its best?

Hayfield Parish Council is looking for a reliable and practical Maintenance Assistant to provide temporary cover for 4 weeks, with the possibility of an extension following a review by the Parish Council.

🔨 The role

20 hours per week
ÂŁ15.00 per hour
4-week temporary contract
Possibility of extension
Working independently across parish-owned areas

🌱 What you’ll be doing
The role will involve helping to keep our local spaces clean, tidy and well maintained, including:

• Weeding and general grounds maintenance
• Light maintenance and repairs
• Repainting benches and other parish furniture
• General upkeep of parish-owned areas and facilities
• Other practical maintenance tasks as required

đź‘· Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who is self-motivated, reliable, practical and takes pride in their work. Previous experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, property maintenance or a similar role would be desirable, but a positive attitude and willingness to get stuck in are just as important.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over, as the role involves working independently and undertaking solo working.

TRAFFIC SPEED & VOLUME SURVEY REPORT

Hayfield Parish Council have recently carried out a Traffic Speed and Volume Survey on C299 Market Street, Hayfield, Derbyshire

Survey period: Thursday 18 June – Wednesday 24 June 2026 Site ID: 000000011457
Posted speed limit: 30 mph

In response to residents concerns, Hayfield Parish Council recently conducted a seven-day survey on Market Street to gather accurate, 24/7 traffic data, revealing that while average speeds are generally well-controlled within the 30 mph limit, a significant minority of drivers engage in high-speed events. Whilst the findings suggest the majority of motorists comply with regulations, some high-speed incidents remain a concern.

Over the seven-day survey period, an average recording device on Market Street, Hayfield recorded 18,385 vehicle movements, averaging 2,626 vehicles per day (2,749 on an average weekday). Traffic follows a typical village pattern, with a morning peak round 08:00 and a broader afternoon peak around 15:00, and
noticeably lower flows overnight and on Sunday.

Overall vehicle speeds are well controlled relative to the 30 mph limit: the mean speed across all traffic was 23.2 mph and the 85th percentile speed was 28 mph — both below the posted limit.

However, speed compliance varies by direction of travel and by time of day:
â—Ź Northbound traffic is faster than southbound: mean 24.4 mph vs 22.6 mph, with an 85th percentile of 29 mph vs 27 mph.
â—Ź Around 7.5% of all vehicles were recorded travelling above 30 mph; this rises to 11.9% for northbound traffic, against 5.1% southbound.
● The highest speeds of the day occur late at night and in the very early hours (e.g. 85th percentile of 34 mph at midnight), when traffic volumes are lowest — a pattern consistent with a minority of drivers speeding when the street is quiet.

These findings suggest that, while the great majority of drivers on Market Street comply with the 30 mph
limit, there is a meaningful minority of higher-speed events — concentrated among northbound and late-
night/early-morning traffic — that may warrant further monitoring or targeted traffic-calming attention.

Dear Residents,

Yesterday evening a charger and large battery were found plugged in to the power source at the Cenotaph and left unattended.

These were unplugged and removed due to concerns over Health and Safety.

Hayfield Parish Council would like the remind Parishioners that the electrical sockets at the Cenotaph are for Parish Council use only and members of the public are not permitted to use them.

Valley Road Playground Equipment Update

As part of our regular inspections and ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and enjoyable play area, one piece of playground equipment has been decommissioned following a recent assessment - the wooden scale swings in Valley Road Recreational Ground.

While we’re sorry for any disappointment this may cause, the safety of everyone using the play area is always our top priority.

The rest of the play equipment remains open and available to enjoy as normal. We appreciate your understanding and patience while we consider the next steps.

We are aware of speculation and concern around the village regarding an incident within the village this morning. The Clerk has spoken with PCSO's and they can confirm there is no threat and nothing for the public to worry about, the matter has been dealt with.

🚧 UPCOMING ROAD CLOSURE 🚧

DCC have shared the below information with us.

DCC will be closing the A57 Snake Pass from Monday, 15 June until Friday, 3 July for major ground investigations at the Doctor’s Gate landslip to identify a long term repair at the site. The closure will be in place 24/7.

The A57 will be closed at Glossop, from the junction with Derbyshire Level to the junction with the Fairholmes visitor centre and the Bamford reservoir.

A signed diversion will be in place using the A6013, Bamford A6187, B6049, A623, A6, A6015, A624, A57 Glossop and vice versa.

Access will be maintained for residents, businesses, farmers and organisations including the National Trust and High Peak Borough Council. Traffic marshals will be on site to direct people from approx. 7.30am until 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Feasibility and technical studies like this are important to help DCC fully understand the extent of the landslip and ground movement issues along the Snake Pass and the options that may be available.

This work is essential before any detailed proposals can be developed and discussed with funding partners, including Government.

While the road is closed, DCC are hoping to carry out additional works as part of our Safer Roads Fund improvements.

At the Doctor's Gate site, a large drilling rig will be used to investigate the ground and underlying rock formations.

The rig will sit across both lanes of the Snake Pass, forcing the closure of the road for public safety.

The A57 Snake Pass was reduced to one lane under traffic light control at the Doctor's Gate site in January 2024, due to ground movement.

Ongoing checks have shown that the ground which supports the road's retaining wall is gradually collapsing. Cracks continue to open in the surface of the A57 due to ongoing ground movement.

The temporary lights will remain in place at the existing Doctor's Gate and Alport landslip sites as before.

Other repairs DCC will be carrying out while the road is closed, as part of our fence to fence way of working, include:
litter picking
pothole and patching repairs
jetting road drains clear following the heavy rain which has washed branches and mud into road gulleys, causing blockages
pavement repairs
cutting back overgrown trees and hedges
cleaning and replacing damaged road signs.

The road closure is in place for the safety of the public, our team and our contractors working along the route.

This will be a busy operational site, with heavy lifting equipment, large machinery and a drilling rig in use, with repair works taking place along the full length of the closure.

People who choose to ignore the closure, enter at their own risk. We hope people recognise and understand the reasons for the closure and support us to complete the works as quickly – and as safely – as we can.

Dear Residents,

Thank you to all those who braved the torrential rain on Wednesday night to join us at the Annual Parish Meeting and the Scarecrow Festival Awards. It wasn’t the easiest evening to leave your warm cosy homes and come to St. Matthew’s, and it means a lot to have seen such a great turnout.

The Parish Council acknowledges your very interesting and useful comments and values your insights. These points will be discussed within their appropriate groups and addressed accordingly.

We’d especially like to thank our Tidy-Up Team of volunteers, for their dedication and community spirit, who will soon be seen out and about the community.
