We are proud to officially unveil the new badge of 1451 (Haverhill) Squadron, recently approved by the Inspector of RAF Badges. ✈️
The badge was formally presented by Flt Lt Nathan Young RAFAC to Fg Off Caitlin Smith RAFAC during the transition of command from Flt Lt Young to Fg Off Smith as Officer in Charge — marking both a significant milestone in the Squadron’s history and the beginning of its next chapter.
The badge reflects both the heritage of Haverhill and the spirit of the Squadron:
🔹 The roundel barry wavy represents the Stour Brook and the chalk hills of the Newmarket Ridge surrounding Haverhill
🔹 The sun’s rays symbolise action, purpose, and the commitment of both cadets and staff
🔹 The Saxon Crown recognises Haverhill’s ancient foundation and historical links to Anne of Cleves
The Squadron motto, ENTERPRISE, reflects the ambition, initiative, and determination demonstrated across the unit every day.
Speaking after the presentation, Flt Lt Young said:
“This badge represents far more than a symbol — it reflects the history, identity, and values of 1451 Squadron. It is fitting that it is presented at a moment of transition, recognising both the achievements of the Squadron so far and the exciting future ahead under Fg Off Smith’s leadership.”
Fg Off Smith added:
“It is an honour to receive the Squadron’s newly approved badge as I take on the role of Officer in Charge. The badge and motto, ENTERPRISE, perfectly capture the attitude and dedication of our cadets and volunteers, and I look forward to continuing to build on the Squadron’s success.”
A huge thank you to everyone involved in supporting the development and approval of the badge - this marks an important moment in the continuing history of 1451 (Haverhill) Squadron.
