The Haverfordwest River Festival returns this weekend. Here are photographs of Mary Immaculate Band at Haverfordwest River Festival. On the reverse it says it was 1997, but it looks like it dates from before then. Does anyone have any memory of this?

Today is International Archives Day! This year’s theme is Archives for Justice, which focuses on Rights, Memory & Futures.

Given the recent news on the future development of Shire Hall in Haverfordwest, here is a reminder that we hold many records which chart the history of the building which has played a key part in Pembrokeshire’s history.

This includes this drawing of proposed interior decoration, accounts relating to its construction 1835-1837, architect plans, programmes of events, photographs, and of course the many Quarter Sessions which took place in the court.

This photograph shows crowds surrounding a tank on display in Albion Square, Pembroke Dock, June 1918. The caption refers to the need to pay for tanks in WW1. Tanks toured the country from December 1917 raising money through War Savings bonds.

The Pembrokeshire County Guardian reported of an ‘Airship Week’ from 4th-11th June which had many events throughout the week including talks, performances, and an airship dropping pamphlets. This raised over £171,000!

Llewellin & Sons were dairy engineers based in Haverfordwest who gained international fame.

With origins in the eighteenth century, the business forged a reputation for launching successful new products over five generations before its closure in 1966. The 1903 edition of The Illustrated Dairy stated that ‘here we find the birth of some of the most popular dairy machines of the day.’ Some of these and their awards can be seen on a page from the Pembrokeshire Telegraph on 25th June 1925.

The churn works were based at Northgate and became one of the largest employers of people in the town. In 1987 it was demolished – shown here are before and after photographs.

Roedd Llewellin & Sons yn beirianwyr yn y sector cynnyrch llaeth wedi'u lleoli yn Hwlffordd a oedd yn enwog yn rhyngwladol.

Dechreuodd y busnes yn y ddeunawfed ganrif, ac roedd ganddo enw da am lansio cynhyrchion newydd a llwyddiannus dros bum cenhedlaeth cyn iddo gau ym 1966. Nododd rhifyn 1903 o The Illustrated Dairy mai ‘yma y dyfeisiwyd rhai o beiriannau llaeth mwyaf poblogaidd yr oes.’ Gellir gweld rhai o’r rhain a’u gwobrau ar dudalen o’r Pembrokeshire Telegraph yn dyddio 25 Mehefin 1925.

Roedd y gweithfeydd caniau llaeth wedi'u lleoli yn Northgate a daethant yn un o gyflogwyr mwyaf y dref. Ym 1987 cafodd y gweithfeydd eu dymchwel – dangosir yma ffotograffau cyn ac ar ôl hynny.

Does anyone have travel plans this summer? Here is a letter which features advice about travelling, from Rev. Thomas to his niece at Hendre Eynon, dated 24th June 1822.
