September is a busy month at Hatfield Park, with events to suit every interest.

Explore all things rural as the annual Hatfield Rural Show returns for another year, or watch the night sky come alive as three of the UK's leading firework companies go head to head with showstopping displays at Firework Champions.

There is plenty for the historically minded too. Author Alison Weir joins us for an evening of tales from the life of Anne Boleyn, and our Hatfield Park Lecture Series continues with The Art of Collecting.

For those who enjoy being out in the fresh air, join The Oak House for a community walk through the Park, or take on the Willow 10K as the month draws to a close.

On Tuesday 15th September, we unveil a new memorial at Hatfield Park, commemorating the first tank trials held here 110 years ago.

In early 1916 the Park was transformed into a recreated battlefield, becoming the testing ground for the world's first tank, H.M.L.S. Centipede, affectionately known as 'Mother'. The trials' success shaped one of the most significant developments of the First World War.

In recognition of the Estate’s contribution, Winston Churchill presented the 4th Marquess of Salisbury with a Mark I tank in 1919. The tank remained at Hatfield Park until 1969, when it was transferred to The Tank Museum at Bovington.

The memorial will be unveiled by General Sir James Everard and Lord Salisbury at the tank stand near the start of the Woodland Walk, with the ceremony running from 4.15pm to 5pm. Attendance is free and all are welcome. Full details on our website: https://loom.ly/4wGb05Y

It's no secret that Hatfield Park Estate is home to a rich and fascinating history, particularly when it comes to the Tudors.

We were pleased to share a chapter of that history with National Geographic earlier this year when they visited the Old Palace to film for their upcoming series on the Tudors.

The team met with Vannis Jones-Rahi, our Head of Archives and Collections, and explored some of the treasures from the Hatfield House Archives that help tell part of the story of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Join us at Hatfield House for an evening with Dr Alison Weir on Thursday 24th September. 📜

Hear from the UK's best-selling female historian as she discusses her latest novel, The Boleyn Secret, which follows Katherine Carey, a woman who has remained in the shadows of the Tudor story.

The evening begins at 5pm with an optional guided tour of the Old Palace, followed by time to explore Hatfield House at your own pace.

Something new is taking shape across the Park. 🧙‍♂️

Over the last few days, Fantasy Forest has been transforming our parkland into a world of fantasy, as the festival arrives at Hatfield Park for the very first time.

Fantasy Forest: Libertalia is a festival celebrating the fantasy genre, bringing a weekend of live music, immersive theming and attractions including a Medieval Village, Pirate Camp and Cosplay Court. This year's line-up spans three stages, including a performance from The Film Orchestra alongside sets from Deloraine and Prima Nocta.

Experience the heritage, character and community spirit of rural life up close at the Hatfield Rural Show this September. 🚜 🐑

Taking place in Hatfield Park on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September, visitors can expect vintage vehicles, arena displays, hands-on workshops, gun dog demonstrations and even a classic funfair.

Having completed harvest last week, 2026 marks the earliest and fastest harvest our current farm team has ever delivered.

We shared photographs of this year's harvest a few weeks ago and were pleased to receive a message from a former member of the Hatfield Park forestry team, who supported operations across the Estate more than fifty years ago.

He kindly provided these photographs of bales being stacked and transported in 1974. While methods have changed considerably since then, the purpose behind the work remains unchanged. The same fields continue to be farmed by people who know the land well and take genuine pride in working it.

We are grateful to him for sharing these photographs, and to everyone who has contributed to a harvest here over the decades. 🌾

As the summer holidays wind down, Wilderness Weekends arrives for its final weekend. From Friday 28th to Sunday 30th August, Camp Wilderness will be in the Park one last time this summer, offering young visitors the chance to learn new outdoor skills and connect with nature. 🪵

Activities are included with admission at no extra cost, leaving the afternoon free to explore the gardens or wander along the woodland paths before September arrives. 🌳
