Last week, the Mayor of Hatfield, Councillor Nike Fakoya, visited St Etheldreda's Church in Old Hatfield to attend a service, meet Reverend Darren Collins, and spend some time with members of the congregation.

Sitting at the top of the hill overlooking Old Hatfield, St Etheldreda's is one of the most historically significant buildings in our town. With origins dating back to the 13th century, the church has served Hatfield for centuries and is home to the Salisbury Chapel, built in 1618, which contains the tomb of Robert Cecil. It also holds memorials to two of Queen Victoria's Prime Ministers.

If you're interested in local history, architecture, or just a peaceful place for a stroll, St Etheldreda's welcomes visitors throughout the week. To find out more about visiting, or to plan a tour, head to www.stetheldreda.org.

A big thank you to Reverend Darren and the congregation for such a warm welcome.

Today marks South African Heritage Day, and we're proud to celebrate with some of the Hatfield Town Council team whose roots lie in the southern hemisphere.

Working across Hatfield Kids FunZone, as part of our estates team, and within Birchwood and our community halls, they're a big part of the day-to-day team that keep Hatfield's parks, halls, events and services running for residents. Their skills and perspectives help to make this council the team that it is, and we're grateful for everything they bring to our work and our town.

Hatfield has always been a town of many stories and backgrounds, and we're proud to reflect that at every level of the council.

Wishing all our South African colleagues, and everyone in Hatfield with South African heritage, a happy Heritage Day!

Together with the Green Lanes Allotment Association, we held the second of our allotment open days on Saturday. It was great to see so many old and new faces, especially all the curious newcomers looking to get into growing their own greens!

The second open day is always a time for reflection and seeing how far the plots have come. It's not been easy this summer, with the sun doing its best to scorch us all, but across the site there are some truly impressive plots.

Deputy Mayor of Hatfield, Councillor Peter Costello, came along to hand out some much-deserved awards recognising the efforts of our members. Congratulations to Dave Murphy and Kim Hayes for taking home Best Plot, and to Dan Burns and his family for Best Use of Space!

If you're interested in becoming a plot holder at Green Lanes, visit the Allotments page on the Hatfield Town Council website: https://hatfield-herts.gov.uk/allotments/
