🚔 A man has been charged after we received a report of a person seen with a knife in .

We received a call at around 4pm on Wednesday (9 September) from a member of public reporting that they believed they had seen a person with a knife 📍 by Asda.

Officers attended the scene and traced a suspect to 📍 St Albans Road West where a stop search was carried out.

A knife was recovered and the suspect was arrested.

🚨 Rufaro Andrew, aged 29, of Pond Croft, Hatfield, has been charged with possession of a knife/bladed article.

He will appear at Magistrates’ Court on Friday 30 October.

Sergeant Martin Field said: “This incident demonstrates the importance of reporting concerns to us and I would like to thank the member of public for making the call.

“As a result, a weapon is now off the streets of Hatfield and a suspect will be dealt with through the court process.”

🔒📱 More than £250k lost by Herts victims of hacking

Hackers exploit vulnerabilities to steal personal information, financial data, and even identities.

During 2026 there were 660 reports from victim who have had their email or social media accounts hacked, losing £252,908 in the process.

If a criminal can get access to these accounts, especially your email account, they can often access to your other accounts and lock you out completely.

Your email account is where you keep your most personal and financial information.
• If a cyber-criminal accesses your email, they could: access your other online accounts using the 'forgot password' feature (which often sends you an email).
• Access personal or business information and use this to defraud you or people you know.

Two actions to instantly help protect your email:

Action 1: Passwords
• Use passkeys over passwords where possible. Passkeys are a more secure alternative to passwords. A passkey is a password-less authentication method that allows you to log into an app and website, using your existing device biometrics (like Face ID or fingerprints) or lock screen PIN. • Your email password should be strong and different from all your other passwords.
• Combining three random words that each mean something to you, is a great way to create a password that is easy to remember but hard to crack.
• Do not use words that can be guessed (like your pet's name). You can include numbers and symbols if needed. For example, “Hippo$100PizzaRockets”

Action 2: Turn on 2-Step Verification (2SV) for your email
• 2-Step Verification (2SV) gives you twice the protection so criminals can't access your email, even with your password. 2SV works by asking for a code, sent to your phone when you sign in using a new device or change settings such as your password.

🚲 We've been conducting proactive bike patrols around 📍 Parkhouse Court to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

In the early hours of Saturday (5 September), Response Team 2 officers were just five minutes into their patrol when a Wanted man was spotted and arrested.

⚖️ The man, who is in his 40s and from , was wanted for failing to appear at court in relation to shoplifting and vehicle interference.

This is a fantastic example of how proactive policing and high-visibility patrols can deliver immediate results, removing wanted offenders from the streets and helping to keep our communities safe.

🚔 A man has been arrested in as part of continued efforts to tackle drug supply.

The 20-year-old man, who lives in the town, was arrested in 📍 Ludwick Way on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class A drug (crack co***ne) and possession of a class B drug (cannabis).

The arrest took place at around midnight on Wednesday (2 September) into Thursday (3 September).

Police had been carrying out patrols as part of Op Load, an intelligence-led operation which has been launched in Welwyn Hatfield.

The operation sees the Neighbourhood Policing Team and Response Team work together to develop intelligence pictures, identify enforcement opportunities and work collaboratively with partners. The operation aims to target individuals and groups responsible for causing the greatest harm within the district.

👮 Welwyn Hatfield Chief Inspector Chris Rutter said: “My officers are working hard on this operation to tackle the crimes that are having the biggest impact on the community. We know the harm that drugs cause and so tackling this is a priority. I hope the news of this arrest and dedicated operation is reassuring. During the arrest, we seized a mobile phone and suspected class A and B drugs. The man has been bailed and is not allowed to visit Ludwick Way whilst further enquiries are carried out.

“I’d like to remind residents to please report any suspicions about drug activity in your area. We are here and ready to take action.”

We are appealing for witnesses and information following a collision in .

The collision happened at around 7.50am yesterday (Monday 7 September) in Hatfield Park, Hatfield House.

It is reported that a VW campervan collided with a pedestrian and a tent.

A man aged in his 40s sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver of the van has been helping officers with their enquiries.

Sergeant Tim Davies, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “This collision occurred at a time when a number of people were onsite following an event at the venue the previous day.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information that could assist our enquiries.”

A woman who waited more than 30 years for justice bravely told a courtroom that childhood sexual abuse denied her the chance to discover who she could have become.

The sustained campaign of sexual abuse occurred between 1994 and 2003 when the victim was under the age of 13.

Speaking in front of the busy court ahead of sentencing today (Friday 4 September), she said: “The abuse has affected every stage of my life. It has shaped my education, my relationships, my mental health, my self-worth, my career and my ability to trust other people.

“The years I spent fighting to be believed caused repeated breakdowns, long periods of depression and a profound loss of identity. I will never know who I could have become had this not happened to me.

“The childhood I should have had, and the person I might have become, were taken from me. That loss is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”

Haji Hussain Mohammed, aged 52, was previously found guilty of six counts of indecent assault and three counts of indecency following a trial in June, having denied the offences.

He was found not guilty of one count of indecent assault.

The abuse was first reported to police in 2003, with the case no further actioned by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Following a review process by the CPS in 2023, the case was re-opened and then thoroughly re-investigated by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Non-Recent Child Abuse Investigation Team.

Mohammed, formerly of Heronswood Road in Welwyn Garden City, was subsequently charged with the offences in February and March last year, according to legislation in place at the time.

He was jailed for 10 years at St Albans Crown Court today, the maximum available sentence, and also handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Detective Constable Gemma Lobacz, who led the investigation, said: “Firstly, I wish to commend the victim for showing courage and bravery throughout the investigation and court process, and for remaining committed to seeking justice despite significant personal challenges.

“This case shows that there is no time limit on justice. We remain committed to identifying, pursuing and holding offenders accountable, regardless of when their crimes were committed.

“Mohammed will now serve a considerable amount of time behind bars, and I hope this result will offer a sense of closure.”

👮 A man has been arrested and charged following an incident outside a pub in .

Police were called at 9.30pm on Saturday 27 June to reports that a grey Ford Ranger had collided with a group of people on 📍 Bishops Rise following an altercation.

One woman aged in her 20s was taken to hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Glen Lawrence, aged 35, of Mill Road in , was arrested on Friday (28 August) and has been charged with the following offences:

• Two counts of attempted GBH
• Affray
• Dangerous driving
• Driving without a licence
• Driving without insurance

He has also been recalled to prison.

Lawrence has been remanded ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing at Crown Court on Tuesday 29 September.

As part of an ongoing investigation, we are now releasing images of people we would like to trace in connection with a robbery in .

The incident took place on Tuesday 23 June at around 9.30pm at the Tesco Express store on Station Road.

We are appealing for witnesses and information after a woman was bitten by a dog during an incident in Codicote.

On Thursday 20 August at around 9.20am, a woman was walking her dog in New Town when it was attacked by another dog. As the woman tried to separate the two animals she was bitten twice on the knee by the attacking dog.

The dog is described as a staffy type and was being walked on an extendable lead by a woman in her 20’s, who had blonde hair and had a child on a push along car with her.

Investigating officer PC Grace Moore said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, experienced anything similar, or think they may know the owner of the offending dog, to get in contact.”

A man has been charged in connection with a robbery in .

At around 8.25pm on Wednesday 12 August, a teenage boy reported being threatened with a knife and having his bike stolen on Bridge Road.

Following enquiries, Jimmy Harty, aged 18 and of Haynes Close, Welwyn Garden City, was charged with robbery and possessing a knife/sharp pointed article in a public place.

Harty appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Monday 31 August) for a first hearing. He will next appear at St Albans Crown Court on Tuesday 29 September.
