Happy International English Language Day! ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ ๐ŸŒŽ

Today is not only St George's Day, it's also Shakespeare's Birthday ๐Ÿชถ (and, more importantly, my Dad's ๐Ÿฅฐ)

And around the world it's marked as a celebration of the English language...

With over 600,000 words, it's the largest language - and I learnt today that Shakespeare contributed over 1700 of them himself!

We've also adopted words from languages all around the world, reflecting its roots as a melting pot of many older tongues.

Today, a lively group of international students met to celebrate and further their studies of the language that connects us all. ๐Ÿ“š

๐ŸŽ‰Suba aluth aruwwadak wewa! ๐ŸŒž ๐ŸŒ

Happy Sri Lankan New Year to our East Sussex Sri Lankan residents and huge thanks for giving me such a warm welcome at your celebratory event yesterday up at Horntye.

It was a joyful celebration full of delicious food ๐Ÿฅฎ music, games, dancing and ritual ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐ŸŽ† hundreds of Sri Lankans gathered from across the county to celebrate. Naturally, our cricket ground was a popular choice! ๐Ÿ

Special thanks to Dulakshmi (in red, photo 2 and 4) for inviting me along and looking after me! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

Dulakshmi is a community organiser for East Sussex Buddhists who are hoping to find a location for a temple โ›ฉ๏ธ and meditation centre ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผ so they don't have to travel all the way to London, as they do now. They are keen to offer meditation as an aid to good mental health. Working up at Conquest Hospital with dementia patients, Dulakshmi recognises the importance of prevention and maintenance in our communities, before it becomes an emergency ๐Ÿฅ
