Hastings All Weather Lifeboat was requested to launch by Solent Coastguard at 1637 yesterday afternoon to locate and assist four people and a dog who had been cut off by the tide to the East of Hastings at Ecclesbourne Glen.

The Lifeboat and her volunteer crew were quickly on scene and were able to locate the casualties, but due to the high tide and South Westerly F5 wind, the ALB was unable to access the location.
Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat were also tasked, and arrived on scene a short while later, but were also unable access the casualties due to sea state and the rock fall debris which lies under the surface at that tide height.

The ALB stood by as safety cover and managed communications between HM Coastguard - Hastings, HM Coastguard- Bexhill, HM Coastguard Rye Bay and Solent CG until the casualties were able to slowly make their way west towards the CRT team.

At 2100hrs all had made it safely back to Rock-A-Nore and the lifeboat was stood down with thanks.

Always check the local tide times and weather before undertaking a shoreline walk as it’s very easy to be stranded.

A GREAT TURN OUT FOR OUR ANNUAL STATION CRAZY GOLF CHARITY TOURNAMENT LAST NIGHT!

Crew, Fundraisers, guides and shop volunteers all came together for the Annual ‘Dave Morley Crazy Golf Cup’ yesterday.
Dave who used to be a Head Launcher at the Station is fondly remembered at this annual event for bringing the Station together for some golfing fun!

The winner of the night was crew member Sam with the lowest score. Well done all 😊

Everyone chipped in £5 and we raised over £200 for the Fellowship of St Nicholas.

HASTINGS RNLI LIFEBOAT STATION GETS A NEW MANAGER

Hastings RNLI lifeboat station has a new lifeboat operations manager (‘LOM’), Jo Mayne.
The LOM, a voluntary role, is responsible for the day to day management of the lifeboat station, ensuring that its crews are available 24/7/365 to save lives at sea.

Jo has lived in Hastings for 14 years, and until her appointment as LOM was a launch authority at the lifeboat station, part of a team responsible for liaising with HM Coastguard whenever a lifeboat is needed in the area.

Jo said :- “I am really delighted to have been appointed as lifeboat operations manager at Hastings RNLI lifeboat station. We have a great crew here at Hastings, all prepared to drop whatever they are doing when the pager sounds to save lives at sea. With a number of new recruits having just started, and a new lifeboat expected here late next year, this is a really exciting time for the station, and I am really looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.”

Whilst on exercise yesterday morning, at 1050hrs Solent Coastguard tasked Hastings Lifeboat to assist a yacht that had lost power near the entrance to Rye Harbour.
In rough conditions with winds gusting Force 7 the lifeboat and her volunteer crew made their way to the stricken yacht and its lone skipper outside the harbour entrance.
It was established that the safest course of action was to take the yacht under tow.
The tow was established quickly and the yacht was taken safely into Rye Harbour and moored alongside Rye Wharf.

The lifeboat then continued its exercise carrying out navigation and search training.
The lifeboat returned to station shortly after 1530hrs

Both of Hastings Lifeboats were requested to launch by Solent Coastguard at 0103 this morning to reports of someone shouting for help near Hastings Pier.

The boats and their volunteer crews were quickly on scene and after carrying out a thorough search no one was found.
Both boats were stood down and returned to station.

If you see someone in trouble on the Coast, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
