Residents, businesses and visitors are invited to find out more about the projects transforming Hastings at the Hastings Town Deal Open Day, taking place on Saturday 3 October, from 10am to 4pm in the central atrium at Priory Meadow Shopping Centre.

The event will provide updates on the £24.3 million Town Deal regeneration programme, giving the public the opportunity to meet the programme team and delivery partners, hear about progress across a range of projects, ask questions and share feedback.

Learn more about completed projects alongside updates on major schemes currently under way, including:

Troika Projects, showcasing progress on the West Hill Project, including the reopening of Hastings Castle and their programme of events, and plans for the new West Hill Visitor Centre with restaurant, café and events space;

East Sussex County Council, providing updates on the Hastings Town Centre Public Realm and Green Connections project, alongside public art specialists INSTAR, who are delivering the town centre Public Art Commission;

East Sussex College Group, sharing the latest developments on the newly built Green Automotive Centre of Excellence at the Ore Valley Campus.

Hastings Borough Council's statement following the government's announcement today (Monday 7 September) that local government reorganisation in 14 areas including East Sussex and Brighton has been paused.

Cllr Glenn Haffenden, leader of Hastings Borough Council, said: “We are disappointed that the government has yet again moved the goalposts and announced a pause in the local government reorganisation process today. Hastings Borough Council did not ask for this re-organisation but following several Government announcements Members and officers across East Sussex have been working in good faith for more than 18 months to get us to where we are now and we are now once again uncertain about what happens next.

“Councils across East Sussex have spent countless hours working through this project so far, costing time and money which could have been spent on things like tackling our housing crisis. The waiting is unfair for residents who want to know who will be delivering their services in the future and on all the council staff who have spent so much time working on this. We will be pushing for a quick review involving the relevant councils and groups, ensuring our views are finally properly heard so everyone knows where they stand.”

Cllr Becca Horn, lead councillor for Community Safety and Environmental Services, went out with Biffa crews on a recycling round to find out more about what they do and how we can help them.

Here are her top tips:

1. Please don't put electrical items in the bins! ⚡
Small electricals can go in a separate small plastic bag on top of your general waste or recycling and our binnies can collect them safely.
This includes Vapes, batteries, electric toothbrushes, old charging cables etc...

2. Please help our crews by putting your wheelie bins kerbside! 🛞
This helps speed up their job and makes sure they don't miss a bin 🗑️

3. Pizza boxes must be empty to be recycled! 🍕
Don't leave your crusts, dip pots or grease sheet in there 😉 .
Only clean cardboard and paper can be recycled. No dirty napkins or tissues! ✨

And finally one from me...
4. Coffee cups are not recyclable! ☕
They are usually food contaminated, plus they have a plastic-coated lining to stop them going soggy.
All the more reason to get your own reusable coffee cup and support our local cafés! ✅

Southern Gas Network (SGN) will be carrying out work on The Ridge from Tuesday 22 September. This work is to replace old mains pipes with new, more reliable, plastic pipes.

There will be traffic lights in place while the work is carried out. The lights will be manually operated to help with traffic flow, but please allow extra time for journeys.

More information, including maps of the affected area, is available on the SGN website at https://www.sgn.co.uk/our-gas-works/major-planned-projects/hastings-b2093-ridge. The work is scheduled to be phased until summer 2028.
