A juicy date for your diary - Hassocks Apple Pressing Day will be on Saturday 26th September 10am - 1pm 🍎🍏 

Bring some apples and containers and we will turn them into juice! There will be a performance by the wonderful Sing Club to accompany our pressing as well as some tea and cake refreshments.

🌺 We still need more volunteers to help support Hassocks’ Remembrance Sunday commemorations on 8 November 2026.
🤝 At the moment we are short of the number of people we need to marshal the parade and provide general support on the day, so we are asking residents and local community groups to please step forward if they can help.
👥 Last year around 100 people attended, and with a larger attendance expected this year, having enough volunteers will make a real difference to keeping the event safe, welcoming and well organised.
🕊️ Remembrance is for everyone in our community, and local volunteers play an important part in helping residents come together respectfully to remember all those affected by war and conflict.
📧 If you can spare some time on the day, please contact Louise Coles via [email protected]. We really do need people to come forward, and every offer of help is appreciated.
💡 Did you know that in the last Census, 297 Hassocks residents were UK armed forces veterans? This is fractionally below the national average - and many other families are connected to military service or experiences of war and conflict.

🚨 Air Ambulance Week runs from 7–13 September, raising awareness and funds for the lifesaving work of the UK’s 21 air ambulance charities.
🤝 At Hassocks Parish Council, we have been proud to support our local Kent Surrey Sussex Air Ambulance charity through community grants, helping make a small contribution towards the operating costs of its Helicopter Emergency Medical Service.
🚑 In a serious medical or trauma emergency in Hassocks, this service could make a lifesaving difference by bringing specialist care to people when every minute matters.

💚 Know Your Numbers! Week runs from 7–13 September and is the UK’s biggest blood pressure testing and awareness campaign.
💡 High blood pressure often has no symptoms, so the only way to know your numbers is to have a quick check. If you’re over 40, Blood Pressure UK recommends checking at least once a year, ideally with a verified home monitor, or at your local pharmacy or GP.
📍 In Hassocks, you can ask local pharmacists, including Boots and Day Lewis, or contact Mid Sussex Health Care about blood pressure checks.
ℹ️ You can also reserve a blood pressure monitor to borrow free of charge from Hassocks Library, and West Sussex County Council Wellbeing teams offer blood pressure checks for eligible clients.

🌟 September is East and South-East Asian Heritage Month, a chance to celebrate, acknowledge and learn about East and South-East Asian heritage, culture, history and community life here in Hassocks and across the UK.
ℹ️ The last Census recorded around 3% of Hassocks residents as being of Asian heritage, and around 1% of residents as having been born in the Middle East or Asia.
💚 As a Parish Council, we want Hassocks to be a welcoming place for everyone who lives, works, studies, visits or volunteers here.

👟 September is Move More September, a UK-wide campaign encouraging people of all ages and abilities to add more physical activity into everyday life.
🌳 As we head into autumn, Hassocks has lots of lovely ways to get moving, from exploring Adastra Park and our other green spaces, to making the most of local footpaths, cycle routes and links to the surrounding countryside.
🤝 It can also be a great way to feel more connected to the community, whether you try something new with a friend, join a local activity group, or make time for a regular stroll around the village.
💚 Moving more does not have to mean doing something big. A short walk, a cycle ride, gardening, stretching, joining a local club or simply choosing a more active journey can all help support physical and mental wellbeing.
➡️ However you move, every bit counts. Why not use September as a fresh start to find a routine that works for you?

👣 Do you use the dropped kerb crossing outside Sussex Grocers?
🚫 One of the proposals in our Keymer Road traffic consultation is to add a no loading/no stopping sign to help keep this crossing clear.
♿ This crossing is particularly important for older and disabled residents, wheelchair users and people with pushchairs, as well as anyone visiting nearby shops.
➡️ Please take part in the consultation by Monday 21 September: https://www.hassocks-pc.gov.uk/keymer-road-parking/ The final decision will be made by West Sussex Highways, based on our proposal and feedback.
📝 We want to know whether you think this would improve access, and whether there are any concerns or alternatives we should consider.

Hassocks Parish Council is inviting residents, businesses and road users to comment on three proposed parking and traffic changes in the Keymer Road area.

🎗️ Have you spotted the gold bows around Hassocks yet?
💛Hassocks Goes Gold has become an important part of village life each September, raising awareness of childhood cancer while bringing residents, families, businesses and local groups together.
📍 Hassocks Parish Council is pleased to be sponsoring bow #49 outside the Parish Centre this year. If you are following the Giant Gold Bows Trail, do look out for it as you explore the village.
🌳 There are quite a few gold bows around Adastra Park and the memorial garden.
