Reading, confidence and community.

Our Level 2 Early Years Practitioner students were back at Ward Jackson C of E Primary School this week for their weekly reading club, joined by our Principal and Chief Executive, Darren Hankey.

Darren read with children from KS1 and KS2 before they took part in literacy-based activities based on Mr Wolf’s Pancakes.

The reading club supports a wider town-wide focus on improving literacy and helping children enjoy reading from an early age.

A lovely example of our students putting their skills into practice and making a difference.

This week is National Carers Week, and today we were proud to host a very special event in honour of Hartlepool Carers and the Pool Together initiative.

We have partnered with Pool Together to celebrate the incredible and often invisible work of carers in our community, and to mark the first anniversary of a movement that has been bringing people together, with kindness at its heart.

Hartlepool Carers have supported our community for over 30 years. There are an estimated 6,000 carers in Hartlepool alone, with more than 4,000 hidden carers who may not even identify themselves as such. Today we heard about the new Hartlepool Carers Strategy, a shared vision for meaningful partnership across health, social care, education and the voluntary sector, which aims to keep carers healthy, connected and included in the decisions that shape their lives.

We also celebrated what Pool Together has already made possible in just one year, from their launch event to the Week of Action, 12 Days of Kindness, and Love Our Street projects. We also celebrated the fantastic work delivered by our own learners in local care homes, creating intergenerational connections across different communities in Hartlepool.

Attendees enjoyed meditation and sound bath sessions, conversations with a wide variety of local organisations, and wonderful food provided by Sheesh Mahal. To conclude the day, attendees were also invited to make pledges, and tied them to a 'pledge tree.'

Thank you to everyone who came, spoke, and made this event so meaningful.
