Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Helping those in need in the Harrogate community and Internationally. Get in touch if you would like to visit one of our meetings and see what we're all about.

Harrogate Brigantes Rotary was founded in 1980, as part of Rotary International; a worldwide association of business and professional people dedicated to helping communities and individuals in need. During the Covid-19 crisis Harrogate Brigantes Rotary have been working to help many good causes who have suffered a loss of income. Our members have dug deep into their own pockets to supplement our charity account, but much more is needed. Follow our updates for ways you can support us and our work in the community.

Harrogate Brigantes Rotary is inviting charities and community organisations from Harrogate to apply for a share of a new £50,000 funding pot.

The second round of our Legacy Fund follows the distribution of £50,000 to 14 local organisations in 2024. The first round received 65 applications, with grants ranging from £400 to £10,000.

Harrogate Brigantes Rotary President, Guy Wilson, said: “The first round showed us both the extraordinary work taking place across our district and the level of need among local organisations.

“We were delighted to support 14 excellent projects in 2024, from accessible transport and hospice equipment to the restoration of community and school facilities.

“We are now looking forward to hearing from another wide range of charities, schools and community groups. If your organisation has a project that could make a real and lasting difference locally, we encourage you to read the guidance and apply.”

This year, Harrogate Brigantes Rotary welcomes Harrogate’s Mayor, Councillor Viv Poskitt, and Lizzie Hughes, Interim CEO of Harrogate & District Community Action, to the judging panel.

They, alongside returning judge Matthew Stamford, Director of Verity Frearson Estate Agents, and Guy Wilson and Peter Wood, President and a Past President of Harrogate Brigantes respectively, will decide who receives a share of the money.

Applications must be submitted by 30th November 2026. To apply, for guidance & for further information, visit https://www.rotaryharrogatebrigantes.org.uk/project/legacy.

Successful applicants will be informed in December and announced in January at a celebration evening on 14 January at Oakdale Golf Club.

In 2023 we were left a legacy by a friend of Brigantes. In accordance with his wishes we are making a first tranche of £50,000 available to local good causes.

£7,500 raised for our Nepal Flood Appeal in just 4 days, including gift aid and match-funding!

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far or shared our campaign. It really will mean so much to those affected by this awful disaster 🙏

We're in regular contact with our long-term trusted partners in Nepal, the Himalayan Gurkhas Rotary Club, who have a member directly involved in rescue operations.

If you feel able to donate, Google Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Nepal Flood Appeal, or use our secure Just Giving link below. You can also help by sharing our appeal with friends and family.

A heartbreaking reminder of why we've launched our Nepal Floods Appeal 🥲. We've included a link in the comments for anyone who feel able to support our fundraising efforts.

We're sure, like us, you will have been shocked and saddened by the horrific media coverage of the recent flood disaster in Nepal and across the border.

Sadly there are now 900 confirmed dead and over 4,000 still missing, including 900 hydropower workers trapped in tunnels and nearly 600 foreigners.

Harrogate Brigantes Rotary has a long association with Nepal through our 'Changing Young Lives in Nepal' project. It is a country close to our hearts, with many Brigantes Rotarians having visited the country as volunteers.

We are working with our trusted long-term partner in Nepal, The Himalayan Gurkhas Rotary Club, to raise money to help those most in need following the devastating floods in August 2026.

We don't often openly ask for help, but even a small donation to our Nepal Flood Disaster Appeal can make a big difference on the ground and we have set ourselves the ambitious target of beating our previous £10,000 fundraising record following the Nepal earthquake disaster in 2015.

Further more, due to a generous legacy left to us by a friend of the club, every pound raised for our appeal, up to a total of £7,500, will be match funded. So your donation will go even further to helping those on the ground.

So we're asking for you help to spread the word about our campaign and possibly make a small donation yourself if you are able.

Our thoughts are with everyone who has lost their lives, loved ones, homes and livelihoods in the terrible tragedy in Nepal yesterday, as well as those across the border.

Anyone who follows our page will know that Nepal is a country close to our hearts, with many Brigantes Rotarians having visited the country to volunteer with our 'Changing Young Lives in Nepal' project.

In 2015 we also raised £10,000 to support recovery efforts following the devastating earthquake in the country, whilst in 2019 we hosted a group of 40 Nepalese children to perform at our bi-annual Kid's Aloud concert at the Royal Hall in Harrogate.

As the rescue attempts continue in often remote areas where critical infrastructure has been badly damaged, we are also thinking of all those involved in these operations in extremely challenging and dangerous conditions.

Keeping Children Safer Online - we recently donated £100 to Oatlands Junior School for a ‘Safety Online’ event on 30th September. Joanne Kidson, a school parent and one of the event’s organisers, came to talk to us more about the issues children can face online.

There are lots of potentially dangerous sites out there and social media can also expose young users to unsuitable content and connections.

Fortunately parents are fighting back. There are numerous organisations such as ‘Screen Safe’ and ‘Smartphone Free Childhood’ which are supporting parents, so that no one need feel they are fighting a lone battle.
