Poetry that Speaks is taking place at Harlow Library on the second Friday of every month from 2:30pm to 4:00pm.

This daytime poetry session, hosted by Ben Blye, centres around live readings and spoken word performances.

And the best part? It is a free, walk-in event open to members of the public and library users.

Poetry belongs to everyone.

With the end of the school year fast approaching, it’s time to say a big “Thank You” to all your teachers who have worked hard over the year. 🧑‍🏫

On the 4th of July from 11AM – 12 noon, Harlow Library will be hosting a ‘Thank you Teacher’ event, where you’ll be making thank-you cards and wooden bookmarks to give to your teachers.

Our Essex Book Festival display is here, showcasing a fantastic selection of titles from this year’s listed authors, along with gripping reads across multiple genres.

You can explore this display, and others like it, at Harlow Library and Great Parndon Library.

This year’s festival runs from 28 May to 28 June 2026, with library hosted events stretching from Waltham Abbey to Colchester.

Whether you’re brand-new or a seasoned adventurer, we’ve got everything you need: dice, character sheets, and a ready‑to‑play campaign.

Experienced players are also welcome to bring their own adventures and step into the role of Dungeon Master.

It’s Volunteer’s Week! Interested in finding out how you can help your community? Harlow Libraries is currently looking for reliable and enthusiastic volunteers for our Summer Reading Challenge. If you’re friendly, a good team worker, and enjoy reading, this could be the placement for you!

You’ll help sign up young readers to the challenge, track their progress with stickers, and give out medals and certificates. Training sessions will take place beforehand where you’ll be given a tour of the library and introduced to library staff.

You’ll be making a positive contribution to your community whilst also gaining valuable skills and experience for your CV.

You can apply to volunteer at any of Harlow’s five libraries. But hurry! Applications close Monday 22nd June.
