Watch out for texts that say they’re from your bank claiming your £1,500 credit card application has been approved, especially if you didn’t apply for one.
These messages often ask you to call a number. If you do, you’ll likely speak to a scammer trying to get your personal or financial details.

If you receive a suspicious text, report it by forwarding the message to 7726.

A huge thank you to everyone who gives their spare time to help make Essex a safer place.

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who support Essex Police and their communities every day.

Our volunteers break down barriers, build trust and work alongside officers and staff to prevent and solve crime.

From Special Constables and Police Support Volunteers to Active Citizens, Volunteer Police Cadets and Independent Advisory Group members, each person plays a vital role.

Together, they give thousands of hours of their own time every year to protect others, support victims and keep people safe.

They bring passion, skills and valuable insight – strengthening the connection between policing and the communities we serve.

We’re proud to have them as part of our policing family, and we thank them – and their families – for their ongoing support.

🚨 Day of Action on Illegal E-Scooters & Unsafe E-Bikes 🚨

Essex Police is supporting a national day of action on Saturday 6 June to tackle the illegal use of e-scooters and unsafe e-bikes.
Led by our Roads Policing Unit and local neighbourhood policing teams, the focus will be on education, enforcement and keeping our communities safe.

🔎 What you need to know:
• Privately-owned e-scooters are illegal on public roads, pavements and cycle paths
• They can only be used on private land with permission
• Illegal e-scooters can and will be seized
• Only government-approved rental e-scooters are allowed in certain areas

👮 On the day, officers will:
• Target illegal riders
• Seize unsafe vehicles
• Speak to riders about the law and risks
• Raise awareness around anti-social behaviour

⚠️ Unintentional law-breaking is not an excuse
Before you buy or ride, make sure you understand the rules.
By choosing legal options, you can help keep Essex’s roads and public spaces safe.

Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users.

That’s why having the right skills, awareness and confidence is essential for anyone riding on roads.

To help keep riders safe, Essex Police’s Road Safety Team is working in partnership with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to deliver a dedicated motorcycle safety initiative known as FireBike.

Since 2023, Essex Police has supported almost 100 courses, helping riders across the county to develop their skills and reduce the risk of being involved in a collision.

The FireBike initiative is designed to engage with motorcyclists on key road safety issues, promote safe riding and encourage continuous learning and is delivered by qualified trainers.

The course is a free, half-day session that provides practical riding advice and guidance.

A key element of the course is the observed ride, where police motorcyclists ride alongside participants and offer tailored support.

Our Marine Unit is urging people to stay safe on the water after rescuing a kitesurfer off Frinton.

Wearing the right safety gear and checking weather, wind and tide conditions before heading out on the water is vital, says Sergeant Alex Southgate.

“Keep an eye on conditions while you’re out,” he adds.

“If you’re riding a personal watercraft, then you also need to be familiar with all the controls and make sure you’re aware of local byelaws and speed limits, too.

“And always make sure you know what to do in an emergency. If you spot anyone in difficulty in the water at the seaside, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”

Our marine officers spotted the man struggling about 100m from shore yesterday, 28 May, after the wind dropped and he couldn’t relaunch his kite. Thankfully, they quickly assisted him and got him and his equipment back to the safety of the beach.

The team were out patrolling the coastline between Bradwell and Harwich on an patrol, which focuses on tackling anti-social behaviour on the water, promoting water safety and keeping water-users safe.

They’ll be out again this weekend – do say hello if you see them!
