Council Tax scam - Please be aware

You may have heard or read in the media about a Council Tax scam taking place, whereby residents receive a letter from Norfolk County Council (NCC) with a fake QR code linking to a fake payment portal.

If you receive a letter of this kind, please do not scan the QR code. Please ignore the letter and bin it. Norfolk County Council does not collect Council Tax, nor does Redenhall with Harleston Town Council.

NCC has confirmed that they are looking into the scam with their Trading Standards team.

So we were wondering, did you attend our Food Festival or Beach Day? Are you planning on joining the Halloween Trail or watching the Christmas tree lights be switched on?

These events are organised by your Town Council, through the Visit Harleston brand, and are funded through your Council Tax. So whether you attend our events or not, we’re keen to know what you think of them. Then we can ensure next year’s events are something you want to attend and will enjoy.

Or perhaps you think the Town Council shouldn’t be organising events at all.

Government withdraws Norfolk decision and launches review

On 7 September 2026, the Government announced a review of its LGR programme and, following updated legal advice, withdrew its previous decision on reorganisation in Norfolk. Decisions relating to Essex, Hampshire and Suffolk have also been withdrawn.
