As the fire sector continues to face a growing challenge in attracting and developing the next generation of competent fire risk assessors. The FIA are working on ways to combat this by raising the standards of not just training, but the quality of assessments, ensuring competency across the industry.

Furthermore, the FIA continue to support current and aspiring fire risk assessors, by developing a regulated fire risk assessment apprenticeship. The apprenticeship has been designed with support from FireQual, Institute of Fire Safety Managers and others.

Following a summer ravaged by wildfires, the city of Oxford is banning disposable barbecues for up to three years due to the threat they pose and the damage they can cause to local communities and our natural world.

Oxford City Council has introduced a three-year ban on open fires, barbecues, lanterns and fireworks across 41 parks and open spaces in the city, in response to the growing risk of wildfires.

NFCC are calling for stronger regulation of telecare services, following estimation that around 2 million people across the UK use these services. As many of the users are old and vulnerable or suffer from long-term health conditions.

The NFCC have now raised concerns about the role of TEC services in fatal fire incidents due to recurring issues. As demand continues to rise and the average age of the population grows it is important that necessary action takes place.

Over August Bank Holiday, Essex Fire and Rescue were called to a house in Basildon, Essex after a fire had broke out which was caused by an e-scooter that was charging overnight.

While firefighters were able to get to the house and extinguish the fire quickly, the fire left the house uninhabitable.

Following this incident, it is important that we highlight the dangers of lithium-ion batteries, especially when left charging unattended.

It is also crucial that we remind consumers:

To only buy electrical devices from reputable retailers

Devices shouldn't be left unattended when charging

Faulty chargers/batteries shouldn't be used to charge/power devices
