BRAG : Bothwell Road Action Group Improving the life chances of community by utilising the resources of Bothwell Road Park Hamilton

Bothwell Road action group was established in 2014 after many years of neglect to Bothwell road public park the local community wished to maximise committed investment by South Lanarkshire council for the facility. Throw the group’s efforts and working closely with council officers and local elected members £160,000 of new play equipment was installed in the park this was celebrated by the local c

ommunity at an official open day in October 2016. The group continued to care for the park organising family events and community clean ups resulting in the 2017 south Lanarkshire voluntary sector award for Community indicative of the year. In 2018/19 the group was became well established and was being asked to provide more services and projects for the community in partnership with other organisation. The group took the decision to expand its service explore setting up as an independent charity to deliver 4 core principles around Play, Environment, Heritage and the protection and promotion of the park. Our ethos is “growing our own” this is the heart of BRAG and reflects community’s taking up the challenge to change and reach individual and collective potential as well as the organisation investing time training and resources to its dedicated team of volunteers as part of continued personal development.

✔️Reduce isolation and loneliness
✔️Support early intervention and prevention

Volunteering is a vital part of community life. It brings people together, helps build skills and confidence, supports causes that matter, and creates opportunities for people to gain valuable experience while making a real difference.

The impact is significant:

🌱 Volunteers in Scotland contribute around 300 million hours of support every year.

🌱 The economic and social value of volunteering has been estimated at approximately £5.3 billion annually.

🌱 Research published in 2025 found that formal volunteering contributes around £2.3 billion each year through both the value of volunteers’ time and the wellbeing benefits volunteering creates.

These figures highlight something many of us already know: volunteering is far more than unpaid labour. It is a powerful force for good that strengthens communities, improves wellbeing, reduces isolation, and supports services and activities that might otherwise not exist.

A huge thank you to all volunteers across Scotland who give their time, energy, skills, and passion to support others. Your contribution is invaluable.

As the most enquires we have regarding the woods and park are about off rd bikes we wish to remind everyone that we at BRAG. Can not do anythin other than bring it up withe South Lanarkshire Council and Police Scotland Lanarkshire which we have on numerous occasions. So we ask the public to do as we have been asked and report them to Police Scotland Lanarkshire on the crime stoppers number or 101 or 999 . This is the only way that resources can be deployed please also ask for a crime reference number so that this can be logged and followed up

Anti-social off-road bike use is not just a nuisance - it’s a risk to rider, public, wildlife and property.

Incidents reported have included illegal riding on roads, parks, pavements and public spaces - some involving injury to the rider, public or property damage.

With rising concerns from communities across South Lanarkshire over the illegal use of off-road bikes, e-bikes, e-scooters and mopeds, our partners at Crimestoppers Scotland are requesting information on those responsible.

Crimestoppers want to help you speak up in a safe, secure, anonymous environment - either via https://orlo.uk/D05iV or by calling trained staff on 0800 555111.
