Village Voices: A Year of Poetry and the Spirit of Cricket
NCDC Poetry Drop In Celebrates First Anniversary
Autumn was the theme at the NCDC Poetry Drop as the group celebrated its first year of meeting on the first Wednesday of each month at Greenhead Village Hall.
One of the highlights came from group member Bryan Stevens, who read a poem from his own collection marking the close of the cricket season. Bryan, aged 90, from Haltwhistle, has spent most of his adult life involved in local cricket. After retiring from playing his last match with Riding Mill, he devoted more time to writing and has since self-published many works, including his book “Cricket: A Game of Quirks and Facets Caught in Verse.”
The Poetry Group, supported by The Big Lottery through NCDC, believes Bryan’s book may be the only poetry collection dedicated entirely to cricket — and would be keen to find out if this is the case.
The NCDC Poetry Drop-In is open to all.
Next meeting: Wednesday, October 1st at 1.30pm, Greenhead Village Hall.
