✨ Libraries Change Lives Week is here! (1–7 June) ✨
Today’s highlight: Bookstart Packs & Sensory Support Bags

Each library offers free Bookstart packs for children under 1, usually given out during our early years sessions. Carefully put together by experts such as librarians and health visitors, these packs are a great way to help parents and carers begin sharing stories and rhymes with their babies.

We’ve also recently introduced sensory support bags. Each bag includes a selection of sensory aids that can be borrowed and used in the library, helping create a calm, comfortable and enjoyable visit for everyone.

Calderdale Libraries aims to support positive early experiences—whether through books or a calm, inclusive environment to help build a lasting relationship with reading and learning.

📚✨ Author Event: John Billingsley in Conversation with Amanda Lees ✨📚
Join us later this month for a special evening with local historian and folklorist John Billingsley, as he celebrates his new book Magical Dispositions, in conversation with bestselling author Amanda Lees.
However logical we may think we are, there’s a deep-rooted human fascination with awe, mystery, and the possibility of connecting with other realms—something John explores in his latest work, with this wide-ranging survey of esoteric, magical and supernatural beliefs encountered in the Calder Valley from prehistory to the present.

Arthur headed to Elland Library this week after hearing exciting rumours that dragons would be dropping in for half term. Curious (and understandably intrigued), he couldn’t resist paying a visit.

Travelling from Halifax Bus Station, Arthur caught the 501/X1, enjoying a calm and quiet journey. He even arrived early enough to spend some time sitting outside with a good book before heading in — the perfect start to his visit.

Elland Library, located on Coronation Street, is housed in the former Constitutional Club. The building has a rich local history, once featuring a dance hall on its upper floor complete with a sprung floor. In 2021, it was thoughtfully transformed into a modern, state-of-the-art community hub, blending its heritage with contemporary facilities.

We are delighted to host this SEND-friendly theatre workshop!
There will be two opportunities for families to experience this magical free show:

"The Librarians" is a hilarious and engaging theatre show aimed at children aged 4- 9. The session will include a 30-minute interactive performance followed by a creative workshop.
