PROPOSED NEW PEDESTRIAN CROSSING FOR BRAMLEY – HAVE YOUR SAY 🚦

Surrey County Council is consulting on plans for a new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing on the A281 Birtley Road, outside Bramley C of E Infant School.

As you know Cllr Kevin Deanus and I have joined locals for years to push for a safe crossing on this busy stretch of the A281 to improve pedestrian safety, particularly for children and families travelling to and from the school.

The proposed crossing would be located close to the junction with The Coombes and would provide a controlled crossing point across the A281.

Residents, parents and other road users are now being asked for their views on the proposal, so please do take a look at the plans and have your say. The consultation closes on the 8th October with a view to get building early next year.

Those who break the rules must face consequences.

Yet a small minority of travellers are getting away with unauthorised development that would never be tolerated elsewhere. This is unfair.

The next Conservative Government will end the two-tier treatment of traveller lawbreaking and ensure the rules are enforced fairly.

Our plan will give police and councils stronger powers to remove unauthorised encampments, tackle trespass and stop the abuse of retrospective planning applications.

We will ensure councils act within 28 days of identifying an unauthorised residential caravan site, strengthen enforcement powers and restore protections for the Green Belt and open countryside.

We will also give police powers to remove trespassers at a landowner’s request, prevent travellers from returning to sites indefinitely and remove the requirement for an alternative pitch to be available before action can be taken.

One set of rules. Fair enforcement. Stronger powers for those responsible for enforcing the law.

🏘 Waverley Land Availability Assessment 2026

Waverley has published its latest Land Availability Assessment (LAA) as part of the work towards it's new Local Plan.

The LAA looks at land across Waverley that could potentially be suitable and available for future uses – including housing, employment, community facilities, green space, biodiversity and renewable energy. ⚠️ Inclusion in the LAA does NOT mean a site has been allocated for development or that it will receive planning permission. It is an evidence-gathering exercise and one of the first stages in deciding where future development may – or may not – be appropriate.

For housing, the assessment considers sites capable of delivering 10 or more homes, using a base date of 1 April 2026.

Rating - categories mean:
🟢 Green – the site appears relatively suitable/achievable, with no major identified constraints preventing it being considered further.
🟠 Amber – the site is potentially suitable, but there are constraints or uncertainties that need further investigation or may need to be overcome/mitigated. This could involve access, highways, landscape, flooding, infrastructure, environmental designations, etc.
🔴 Red – there are significant constraints and the site is not currently considered suitable for development.

Many of the sites identified are currently rated Amber, meaning there are issues or constraints which require further investigation.

With the Government's significantly increased housing targets and West Surrey taking over planning responsibilities next April, it is more important than ever that development is properly planned and supported by the roads, schools, healthcare, water and other infrastructure our communities need.

🚌 SGN Works Bramley & Our New Bus Shelter

I am very pleased to finally see our new bus shelter in place – 20 months after the previous one was hit by a car!

It has been a very frustrating journey and Cllr Kevin Deanus and I have sent more emails and chased more times than we care to remember, but it is great to finally see it installed.

I would like to say thank you to who have allowed the work to be done under their permit to work - if they had not done so we would have been waiting until October!

🚧 SGN works update

The SGN gas main works near the Bramley roundabout are now complete and the remaining excavations now need to be infilled and the road surface reinstated.

Once the reinstatement is complete, the temporary traffic lights are expected to move back up the A281 while SGN upgrades the service pipe supplying Gosden House School.

From the week beginning 31 August, the works will move further north to the junction with Foxburrow Hill Road as the gas main replacement continues towards Shalford. Foxburrow Hill Road will need to be temporarily closed at its junction with the A281 while the connection work takes place, with two-way temporary lights remaining on the A281.

We know just how frustrating the queues and disruption have been over recent weeks. Thank you to everyone for your continued patience – hopefully the worst of the disruption in Bramley itself is now behind us.
